Okay, so I was just reading the manual on my Curado 70. For the Power Pro chart in the manual, it lists 40 lb of 80 yards. For the mono chart, it lists 10 lb of 105 yards. And while I'm a new user to braid, I believe it's smaller than mono -- I think?

If I'm reading the chart Power Pro has out, 40 lb of braid is equal to 10 lb of mono in size. So why does the Curado chart lists just 80 yards of 40 lb braid, compared to 105 yards of 10 lb mono?

The Braid to mono size conversion charts for each manufacturer seem to vary a bit.

The One Constant is that the braid's actual diameter is routinely a little bigger than what is advertised.  Unfortunately this reality makes any truly & flat out dependably accurate conversion mostly like a pipe dream.

I've struggled with it in the past myself and have resigned to the fact that there will be a decent amount of guess work involved regardless of the brand or size.

What has worked for me is to add one size to the advertised number.

In other words, if the braid is said to be the size of 8lb mono - expect it to really be closer to 10 lb mono.

Like I said, nothing you can take to the bank, but it will at least get you in the door.

Good Luck and may the force be with you  ..  ..  ..  ..

So basically 30 lb of Power Pro would really be 10, instead of 8? :D

Basically ~   What I usually do is buy braid spools that are at least 300yds (but often more as I have a few reels) Then I'll fill the reel first with economy mono just under half full.  Then fill the rest with the new braid. Takes a little of the guess work out of it.

As the braid wears and it's needing replacement, I'll end for end the braid down to the mono backing.  This puts the old braid at the bottom and the new/unused braid on top ready to fish.

Quick & easy way to extend the life of the line and can even be done on the water should the need arise.

That tip saves money. Done it many times myself.

Your best way to get actual diameter of braid is to

get a set of calipers :)

The diameter of 30-lb braid varies from line-maker-to-line-maker.

By the same token, the diameter of 8-lb nylon varies from line-maker-to-line-maker.

Consequently, it isn't possible to accurately state 'line-capacity' without specifying the brand of line.

Unless you are using 8 carrier braid the line isn't round like mono or FC.

There isn't a standard for mono or FC line diameter to lb test, every line type and mfr varies. Making a chart can only be considered a guide line using averages called ball park values.
