New bass fisherman here and I'm trying to learn everything I can.   One question I have is why people repack their plastic baits?   The original package seems better than any ziploc I would use.

Great site here and thanks for sharing all the great info.

Welcome to BR. It's always a pleasure to see new blood..........er beginners here that are willing to let their heads be filled with everything fishing (and then some) to the point that they spin and spin.  I digress.

Many of my soft plastics are kept in their original packaging, but others like my tubes and straight tail worms are placed in a 3700 size box with others of the same size, but different colors.  My main reason for doing so is because I purchase the majority of them in bulk and carrying six or eight bags of 100ct. tubes along with four or five of worms isn't the best use of my storage space.

It works for me and that's what the majority of decisions come down to, personal preference.  Find what works, or is comfortable, for you whether is tackle storage, rod, reel, line, sunglasses, whatever. Don't be afraid to experiment, but don't take it to extremes.

The only time I take them out of their original packaging is when I buy something like a 50 pack of stick-O's when they go on sale. I usually take 10-15 and put them in a sandwich baggy to take with me.

For me 80% are in original packaging but I have 3 3600 boxes that I keep in my tackle backpack full of plastics so I don't have to lug my whole plastic arsenal around. One is full of GYB senkos, one is flukes, one is finesse/drop shot/shaky head type worms (trick worms, robo worms, etc).

For the rest they're in original packaging sorted into gallon ziplocs that are labeled. Worms, senkos, lizards, brush hogs, craws...

@papajoe222 I'm with ya ;)

I'm a plastics freak so I buy in bulkI I seldom buy a single pack of anything.

There are certain plastics that will get semi perma bent in the bag, so those I take out and put in a box. For example, the tails on 5" kalins grubs along with other grubs can get bent in a bag. As you use different baits you will find out which ones can be left in bags and which need to be boxed. I just hate needing a specific bait and the last one in the bag has an unnatural 90 degree bend in it.

Other reasons to put baits in a box is you can lump multiple styles of baits of the same color together. I tend to through baits that last many fish so I don't need even 20 worms for a day trip. I have a tube/grub box for example that always goes with me that will cover both stained and clear water.

I will slightly disagree. I feel my ziplocks are better. But robo worms I do repack. Their packaging is pretty lame. But I love those worms.

In my den, I store soft-plastic baits in their original packages in a huge dresser with 5 big drawers.

On my boat, my soft-plastics are poured into open trays in the top of my tackle box  (open-access - quick-grab).

I also keep surplus baits in the bottom of my tackle box in the original packages. Whenever I need

to open a spare bag, the baits get poured into the open trays in my tackle box (open-access- quick-grab)
