XpressJeff Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 OK gentlemen, I was cleaning up and re-organizing for the upcoming season and my new boat when I realized that now I have moved to NC after living the last 15 years in Wisconsin. Guess I"ll put away the 80# braid! The problem is that I still have a whole LOT of $ in Musky gear! Seriously now, I realize that the 12 inch crankbaits/glide baits and enormous spinner baits are too much but I have time nice spinners (essentially a MEPPS #55 hairy straight line spinner) by Al Bucher are great. I am being fecicious, but I thought this might bring about a few laughs. I really do have a bunch of money tied up, probably just box 'em up! P.S. I love the big ass Crappie down here too. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 20, 2017 Super User Posted February 20, 2017 Apparently this is too big. Seems the bass choked to death on its dinner 3 Quote
XpressJeff Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 Wow, I've never heard of a Bass doing that. Seen quite a few Musky dead with a Sucker or a Perch stuck in their throat. I have a swimbait nearly that size too! Was he just floating like that? Wow, I've never heard of a Bass doing that. Seen quite a few Musky dead with a Sucker or a Perch stuck in their throat. Oh well, you are a yank, LMBs in yankeeland seldomly grow beyond 7 lbs .... but for us fellas in the South story is different, LMBs ain't 7 lb dinks, so, you ever heard 'bout them lures called swimbaits ? papajoe222 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 There are a number of Muskie baits that I have consistently caught bass on. The majority of them are in the 6in. range. They include some bucktails, but mostly top-water and cranks. A Super Shad Rap is the first that comes to mind and if I'm not mistaken, there was a smaller two hook version of the Depth Raider that the Wisc. bass couldn't get enough of. BTW, if you're looking to get rid of some of those baits, PM me. I may be interested. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 20, 2017 Super User Posted February 20, 2017 Probably fit in the too big category 4 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 20, 2017 Super User Posted February 20, 2017 BucherTails should work just fine for largemouths down south. Problem you're going to have is the weedgrowth may be more prevalent than what you are use to. Those big trebles could get you hung a lot more. But I'd have no problem using them down there. Some of the bigger glide baits may be just what the doctor ordered as well. What have you got to loose? Quote
SWVABass Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Not sure if you wanna get rid of it all but I believe in Kentucky or Tennessee they have some awesome musky fishing ( I can't remember which though) Quote
blckshirt98 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 If you kept that fish in the mouth, does it count when weighing the bass? Quote
XpressJeff Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 Yes SwBass15, I used to live just west of Cave Run Lake and there was some excellent Musky fishing there but I never did have the opportunity because life kept getting in the way. Now that I am retired that will not happen any more. I a not throwing those 4 pound baits any more either. I figure I have moved a whole lotta weight chasing those "fish of a thousand casts." There's supposed to be some great bucket mouth lakes around here. 1 Quote
SWVABass Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 My misunderstanding I thought you were headed south from the north. Are you interested in shipping some of those if you wanted to sell? We got tiger Muskies out here and I've wanted to try hooking a few. If so shoot me a pm. Quote
