Hey guys, I have no idea where I am going to mount my new Garmin echoMap 73 sv. Its much larger than my current one. I have a Lowe Stinger 170w bass boat and there isn't much room so I was going to pick up a Ram mount but I have no idea where to put it ??

In this picture I have my small lowrance to the left but the Garmin will be to large to go there. Also what Ram mount do you recommend ?

That's a tough one.  I considered mounting one in a similar spot on the inside portion of my console as you do now but I eventually put it to the right of the console along the gunnel.  This is where I see most people put it.  Wherever you decide to mount it, make sure you pick the right spot before you start drilling holes!

Perhaps leave the old one where it is and install the new one in the bow area for use while actively fishing.

I have a Lowrance Elite DSI on the front trolling motor now, The Garmin is replacing the old X4 that's in the picture.

I was thinking one of these maybe on the right side of the console ?

Or maybe this one mounted where the cup hold is ?

If you mount it to the outside portion of the console, make sure you have enough support underneath the console to carry the weight. A small piece of plywood to use as a backer plate to drill into. Rather than stainless wood screws, I would thru bolt it with fender washers and nyloc nuts on the back side of the plywood

Is that a RAM mount? I like it. It may solve my own mounting issue when I mount the the 2nd FF at the console.

I like the side console mount. Definitely back it up as advised above. Also keep

in mind that you have something hanging outside the rub rail when you're navigating tight standing timber from the bow. It's easy to forget that there's something hanging out there that a tree could grab.  Not that I have any personal experience with that or anything.

I would put it where the Lowrance is.  I've gott a 1042xsv mounted there with the Big Ram mount.

I would mount it on the right side of the console with a Ram mount that would allow you do so, like the one maybe in the picture that 1simpleman was showing. Let us know how it works. This is the unit I am thinking on buying.

This could also be an option, and I think it would give me more flexibility in location.

If possible,.. Id put it on the front of the console, in plain sight as you are "safely" navigating. This way your not looking down or off to the side. Just ensure it doesnt hinder your field of vison.

I fished a tourney as a non boater and  this one guys rig had the unit on the right, close to the gunnel, almost lost it on a laydown he got his jig hung up on while he was trying to get back. I had to grab it to save it.

Then yet if you hang it out on the left, its kinda out there in your pathway to the bow.

If I were you? I'd lose the windshield and mount it on the front of the console with a plain old ram mount, so it lays where the bottom of the unit is just above where the windshield was. within plain site, but out of the way

if possible that is

Well I found a location on my boat that I think will work perfect ! I ordered RAM - 111U-D Its like the one in my last picture and made of aluminum.

That will be great unless you fish the wooded lakes I fish.  If an abundance of trees is not an issue then it will be fine.
