Super User Catt Posted February 21, 2017 Super User Posted February 21, 2017 Don't know I missed this? Ya wanna take Hwy 171 all the way through Lake Charles, 171 will turn into hwy 14. Stay on 14 until you get to the red light at East McNeese St, stay straight to the next red light & turn left, there's a store on the left & church on the right. This is still hwy 14, stay on this road all the way to Holmwood, & take a left. Still on hwy 14, go straight through Bell City, & you'll come to a stop sign, take a left. Still on hwy 14 go straight through Hayes, 4-5 miles look for signs on the right that say Laccassin Pool (white sign), you'll also see a sign Illinois Plantation. Follow the route on Google maps or whatever you have. Now ya wanna know where to fish Quote

Clinton john Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 I grew up fishing the pool as it's called down that way. Your not going to get run over by a boat, boats only run in the cannels and they aren't wide so you will be seen before they run you over, there are motor restrictions so you gont have to worry bout some dummy screaming around with a two hundred horse motor. Last i checked motor rating was set at 25 max. The pool is a marsh so it's a huge tangle of grass both above and blow the water, also is filled with snakes and gators so react accordingly, no guns allowed. When you enter the pool it's a long dirt road with cannels on both sides you are not allowed to fish them. No fishing till you cross the cattle guard, cross the cattle guard follow road to the left, it will go a ways then turn right, it will come to a boat launch the marsh on the left side before you get to the boat ramp is the best water to fish out of a yak because their or no motor drive boats allowed in that area. I hope all this helps you sir, it's just some of the things I remember of the pool so some things may have changed. 1 Quote

Dont wanna get run over by a boat @A5BLASTER ain't been there in awhile @bassarmy7 the road leading into Lacassine is Illinois Plantation road. Follow it straight to the stop sign & the through the intersection. Continue straight to the second stop sign, right at the stop sign it the north boat launch. Stay to the left & continue all the way until you have to make a hard right. This will take you back to the 2 south boat launchers. The marsh from that right & on the east is no outboards allowed. You can fish either side of the road but the west side is 40 HP restricted. Quote
Clinton john Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Yea it's been ten years atleast since I fished it so I'm sure some of the things I remembered had changed. We use to slay them on flukes and frogs. Quote

They built a levee that cuts the marsh in half. @bassarmy7 pictures below were bank fishing where ya headed! 2 Quote
bassarmy7 Posted February 22, 2017 Author Posted February 22, 2017 Dang those some nice fish. Id say it looks like its well worth the drive. Im thinking the first trip i make will be to unit d. Or is there other units you recommend @Catt? Also i have a punching rod, froggin rod, topwater rod, jig rod, worm rod, spinnerbait/chaterbait rod, crankin stick and spinning rod. Which to take or leave at home? Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 22, 2017 Super User Posted February 22, 2017 Lacassine opens March 15 the, ya wanna avoid that week, there will be 972,590 people there. After that it dies off quickly. Week days are definitely better as for as number of people. Over cast days produce better because the water is clear. Frogs, plastics, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, chatterbaits, top water, punching later in the year. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 22, 2017 Super User Posted February 22, 2017 @bassarmy7 have you done any map study yet? Quote

Super User Catt Posted February 22, 2017 Super User Posted February 22, 2017 Google Lacassine Wildfife Refuge You should show Google Maps, it should come up in "terrain" mode, following it direction above find Lacassine. Next find the 2 south boat launches, right before the boat launches is a road to the left. At this point switch to "satellite" mode! Follow the road down to a pump shed, right past the shed & on the left is a parking lot. As soon as you turn into the parking lot is a gravel boat launch. Find this & we'll talk where to fish 1 Quote

Super User Catt Posted February 23, 2017 Super User Posted February 23, 2017 Yea buddy! Now from the small gravel launch to the corner where you turn left is probably the deepest canal around. That whole area should be good as it the area in front of the east boat launch. The first bass pictured is 11 lbs 3 oz & was caught at the corner where ya turn east. My grandson caught his under the wharf at the east boat launch. The other 3 were caught in the area around the parking of the boat launches. I caught the 11 lb 3 oz & 2 move over 10 in that area & off the bank! 1 Quote

Super User Catt Posted February 25, 2017 Super User Posted February 25, 2017 14 hours ago, bassarmy7 said: Is all of the area inside that box of roads water? Probably 80% of it depending on amount of rain fall. Lacassine is managed intensively for waterfowl and other Louisiana coastal wetland species. Basically a bird sanctuary & is maintained with that purpose in mind; fishing & hunting is secondary. Quote
