I've wanted a a deep cranking set up for some time. Basically I want a set up like KVD's. I'm not a huge fan of quantum. So other than his reels, what's out there. Obviously I'm looking for a reel that will cast a country mile and with a lower gear ratio. Here's the kicker. I'm lefty. so I'm looking for a LH deep cranking reel. Any suggestions?

A low profile option could be the Abu Garcia revo winch. 5.4:1 gear ratio and is also avaliable in left had retrieve. I got mine on sale last week for 159.99 from cabelas.

$$$$$ Just a tad out of my price range. I love shimano reels though!

Low profile is what I was thinking. I 've had no experience with Abu Garcia. I check them out. Lews????Heard good things about them don't know if they make a LH crankbait reel.

The only lews reel I own is a tournament mb but it's 7 1:1, and right hand retrieve. I prefer Abu equipment for most anything I use. Lots and lots of options on tackle warehouse to browse through. I think they have a swimbait/deep diver section for rods and reels already.

If you can find a deal, that's probably best. But I've got a Lew's BB1 in 5:1, it's pretty sweet for cranking.

I went with the AG Revo Winch. Paired it up with a 7'10" KVD Tour Crankbait MH moderate action. I found it on sale at TW. $100 + $160 for the reel. Too many positive reviews to not give it a chance. Now I'm gonna have to learn how to cast it!

That shouldn't be a problem at all, you'll be dealing with baits that cast very easy.  Enjoy the new rig!

Right now it's like a kid outside looking into a candy store. All this ice will take a while to be gone. Snow is gone but everything is iced up. My intentions are to use it this summer for deep rock piles that I found this past summer. For now, I just have to wait for the river to clear, then it will be tube bait, hair jig time! Then the lake in May.

Sounds like you got a good set up. I had just picked up a BB1 in 5.1:1 left hand from Cabelas, was on sale for 99. It can cast a mile - even light baits. Got it paired with a Lews TP-1 cranking rod. Hope all works well let us know what your impressions are.

It really is frustrating that so many manufacturers have left handed options for everything but the low gear ratio reels. This isn't limited to the Curado.

Unless you want to step up the price point the options for left handed crank reels are very few.

TW has a sale on a Daiwa SS SV 103 with a 5.4:1 ratio both right and left. This is a $350 reel for around $200. I am considering getting it, however I am such a Shimano guy that I'm worried about having foul-ups every time I switch to it.

I too need a left hand reel and was considering the BB1 for  Deep cranking. I am new to this and don't really know the Lews line that well.  Kicker about has a Lew's Super Duty and likes it. What's the difference between a BB1 and a Superduty ?

Does Lews have anything "higher" in their line I should consider ?

i know that it is recomended using as light, thin a line as possible to get depth. I am a braid fan..... can I use that with say a floro leader ?  This way I'll get the best casting and the thinness of the braid should all depth.... right ?  If braid/floro combo will work what test should I consider for both ?  20/10....... 15/10 ?

Hey Lonnie, see you suggest me taking a look at a Revo as apposed to the Lews.  Have you owned both or are you just happy with your Revo and if so what specific model.  Looking for that 5 speed reel.....

I use the Abu Orra Winch and I was actually very surprised with the performance at this price point.  Feels like a much higher end reel and I think I ended up paying $89.

Still waiting on my Vertias Winch 7'11' XH as I've been using a rod not rated for the lure size.

I think you will be happy with the Revo Winch. I have had one for a couple years and find it to be super comfortable. The long handle is nice and even though it's low profile it holds a lot of line.  Enjoy!
