Any suggestions for a rod that provides good bottom contact sensitivity and under 200?

Look for a dragging or Jig rod.

Falcon offers a nice dragger.

i prefer the Lews Custom Lite Magnum Grass. Very versatile.

You have a lot of great rods to choose from.. it's not easy to decide.

I have no complaints with my Diawa Tatula 7'2" HF. And you can find them for 100 too. If you're looking to spend closer to 200 though I'm sure there are much nicer rods out there.

That rod for $100.00 is a score.. wish they offered it with an ACS reel seat.

The new ARK invoker is also good at $150.

Otherwise, a Falcon Cara or Powell Max 3D are always solid choices.

Just off the top of my head; 13 Black *** uses 40ton carbon. Phenix Recons uses 36ton carbon. Okuma Helios uses 40ton I believe. Dobyn's Sierra would be somewhere in that neighborhood. Whatever line uses at least an SCIV blank from St Croix should be in that price range.

If you're ok with a used rod bump up your budget by $50 and you can get about anything out there besides an NRX.

For an extra 10 you can get the avid x, which I think is a phenomenal rod brand new. The options for used are also endless if you're patient, klx, dobyns champion, etc. So if you're looking for new try to squeeze out the extra for the avid x or look around for something used.

X2. I have 2 of them. A 6'10" med-xfast for lighter weights and worms and a 7'mh-fast for jigs, carolina rigs, and mag worms. I personally prefer the origional avid over the avidx since i hate micro eyes.

Dobyns Sierra, Irod Genesis, Powell Max 3D, Falcon rods, there are tons of good possibilities.  If you be more specific in terms of what you want to fish. Are you looking for a jig and texas rig rod, a rod to throw BIG heavy jigs on deep river ledges or are you looking specifically to throw a deep carolina rig?  The ideal rod can be a bit different for all of these. They all require a highly sensitive rod, but handle different average weights of lures.

If you do not mind a used rod Dobyns rods offers a trade in program and also does a warranty program. Sometimes the warranty replaces a rod that needs only minor repairs such as an eyelet popped out so they send the customer a new rod. They inspect that rod and if it meets all of their inspection they repair it. Sometimes it had no defect at all. such as in the trade in program.  They offer those rods at a discount price and they come with the full factory warranty, as if you purchased them new. Go to Dobyns rods homepage. Look in the little menu on top and click on "store"  There you will find a category "mislabeled rods"  and refurbished rods. Choose the refurbished Champion rods. Right now they have two Champion 735C rods, one with a full cork handle and one with split cork. Both rods list as "trade in & great condition.  They are selling for $180 and $190. Both of those rods new cost $259. These would be fantastic for carolina rigging and big jigs as well as flippin, frogs, pitchin, and small swimbaits.  They also have a refurbed 733 and 734 available at a discounted price. These rods are known for their sensitivity and great balance.

The Tatula is hard to beat, you can also pick up on the used market ALX, and they are sweet also. all the suggestions so far you can go wrong with either
