S. Sass Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I was just thinking about all the insurance I have on things like my house and boat etc. I was at the table messing with my lures and it crossed my mind there is no way I will remember exactly all the stuff I have. I actually remember my insurance guy telling me take all the pictures I can inside and around my home. Then upload them to somewhere on the web like a image hosting site. I recommend to pick a place that lets you lock certain folders from public view like photobucket. Some stuff I personally just don't want to advertize like my gun collection. You just can't imagine how easy it is to forget things especially in a major event like losing your home. I have been there once already and it is no fun. So considering many lures are $3 and up I started snapping pictures of my tackle as I hadn't taken any pictures of my tackle for my records at least not any recently. Also the way that bait Monkey always seems to be adding. So I just snapped some as I was putting away dry lures from my last outing. Do any of you do this as well? I can sure glance at these and will not forget a single lure unlike trying to remember every one from memory. And this is a very small portion of mine and I am sure many of you have tons more than me. 2 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted February 16, 2017 Super User Posted February 16, 2017 You can't insure foot loose wakes, they are priceless. Seriously though, this is a good topic. Read your homeowners policy, and know what it covers, and what it doesn't. Most have a cap for personal property, unless it's documented, and in some cases may require a rider. I know that if my house burns down or is sucked up by a sink hole, the least of my worries is bass tackle. I do have a rider for bicycles (think Stella's here not Black Maxs) offshore tackle, and the Admiral's jewelry and collectibles, all of which are itemized and photographed. THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING! 2 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted February 16, 2017 Super User Posted February 16, 2017 Take and print photos with date stamps printed on them. 1 Quote
DubyaDee Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 It's always good to take pics for all of your personal property. There are a lot of specifics on the home and boat policy, so make sure tackle is covered both ways. Boat trailers usually don't have enough coverage to replace them either. 1 Quote

Exactly why everything you own you should snap pictures of. Because in a situation like that who is thinking about $2000.00 or more of just lures right? But seriously to me it wasn't just the lures. Heck I bet there are over a grand in just nicknacks sitting around my house and I know others have way more than that. It's all the small stuff that is so easily not thought of that you are trying to remember. Heck you would be amazed at the obviously big stuff that is easily overlooked as well. Like I said I have been through this once about 20 years ago. And it is amazing some of the things that many years later you realize you completely forgot about. 1 hour ago, DogBone_384 said: Take and print photos with date stamps printed on them. Not to be obvious but thought I would remind or share there are apps that will add time and dates to your pics if your phone doesn't already do it visually. If you do decide you feel the need to print them don't store them at home. Take them to a loved ones home for safe keeping or use a safety deposit box etc. 2 minutes ago, DubyaDee said: Boat trailers usually don't have enough coverage to replace them either. Interesting I will double check this I wasn't aware of that thanks. I would highly suggest talking with your insurer about what they require. Also I have found its always best to get documentation of these type things as well. So a email asking for this or asking where this topic is in your policy if you don't know where it is. And if you don't understand the writing get it clarified with your insurer, lawyer, or someone you trust. Quote

I agree. As much as I love fishing once I get my home up and running I can run to Dick's and get a Daiwa Samurai combo for less than $30 and dig up some worms to start over. Quote
Guest Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 This is a very good topic because we need to protect our investments. I take pictures and also keep receipts. Without pictures or reciptes there is no way to prove to your home owners insurance company what you claim to have. I have a friend that learned this the hard way and I learned from him to take pictures keep receipts. 1 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted February 26, 2017 Super User Posted February 26, 2017 I rent and my insurance covers my small gun collection without a rider as well as my fishing stuff. When I renewed my policy last year it took a little work to sort out who covered my kayak when it was on top of my car, but since I run everything through the same company it worked out in the end. I do need to get some pictures of all my fishing combos at some point soon, but whenever I have a nice sunny day I seem to decide to go fishing instead. Quote
