Ned Rig!!! (Update)

I just tried the Zinker cut in half today. It works, but they tear up way quicker.

Just rotate the bait, so that the hook is coming out of a different part of the zinkerz.  And after one end gets to torn up to use, just flip it around and attach the "tail" to the jig head.  It doesn't matter which side of the zinkerz is attached to the jig head.  I have only completely worm out one half zinkerz, after it had caught 108 bass.  After catching that many bass it is well worth the 40¢ I paid for it, and deserves retirement.

That's what I did. I actually caught more fish, including that big one today with the skinny end going into the jig head.

 

The Ned is so simple, yet so good. The biggest thing for me is it gets me back into a rhythm. Throwing a jig, swimbait, or big worm can result in a lot of casting practice. Now I can throw a big fish bait, pick it back apart with a drop shot, and end with a Ned and I'm confident I did all I could with that piece of water.

I think the ned rig works better in clear water situations. I always use the lightest weight I can get away with.

I fish it in water with less than a foot of visibility with a lot of success. Purple Haze, coppertruese, black and blue, and junebug are my best colors for those conditions.

I would disagree with the fist part, but not the second.  You should never have to use anything heavier than 3/32 oz, but I very rarely use it in favor of the 1/16 ounce size.

I completely agree with Clayton, clear water is not necessary (or even beneficial IMHO) for the ned rig.  I do best with it in lightly stained water, and catch a lot of fish in only five or six inches of visibility.  I like to use coppertruse in muddy water, or if there is smallies around, but Ned kahde prefers junebug.  I actually don't tend to do very well in very clear water with the ned, possibly because there tends to be more weed growth in clear water.

Well this is great! Just great! After swearing off the bait monkey, I read this thread and an article on another site that are both praising the Ned Rig.

Just caught this 4+ pound fish on my lunch break. 35 degrees out. She hit it on the fall, set it, came off, hit it again dead sticking, came off, hit it again dead sticking and finally landed her. PB&J Ned.

The best thing about the Ned rig besides it catches a lot of fish is you don't have to have a lot of colors, just green pumpkin or Junebug.

Bad for me when I'm trying to kill time when the 

youngest is at soccer practice and I spend money.

 

Anyhoo, I bought 2 packs of TRDs and one pack

of weedless 1/20 oz shroomz.

 

Looking forward to fishing them finally in the coming

week or two.

Well....poooh.  I read an article also on another site and it mirrored my feelings and thoughts about the Ned Rig.  Well...I too went to Bass Pro and bought some of the hooks and little stubby things.  It made a tuff day pretty good I must say.  Caught a lot of fish especially when the high cold sky's hit along with wind.  Lost a couple good ones and missed a few but am assuming I pulled the trigger to hard or fast.  This this could be a winner.....

Have "NEVER" in my life fished one bait or rig all day......NEVER.  Very cost effective.

I have a short attention span and neglect the Ned for dozens of trips, then I tie it on again, catch a pile of fish, then wonder why I ever buy other tackle.

Absolutely hate going all out for a bait that doesn't end up

I caught over 50 bass tonight and 4 huge bream. Most of them were on the Ned, I got some on a drop shot. They were all small fish, 10" average, but it was still a lot of fun.

I'm going to look at it as another tool but in the back of my head I'm thinking gosh....wish the hook was a little bigger...

The small hook is a major part of where they get their very subtle action. The baits are so soft that they collapse easily to expose the small hook, and the small hook resist snags amazingly well. I've landed lots of big bass, and a flathead over 20 pounds on the little hook.

Are you using the shroomz or are you making your own jig for the Ned? I know you make a lot of your own stuff is why I'm asking. 

 

I looked at the 1/20 oz and 1/15 oz size shroomz heads & man the hooks on those things were so tiny it looked like a crappie or bream hook. Ended up buying the 1/10 oz just for the slightly larger hook. After fishing it yesterday, kinda wish the bait had a slightly slower fall rate. But I did catch my fish Ned Rig fish. ?
