Good morning.

I have 3 teenage boys who have gotten into bass fishing big time lately. I have fished all my life and most species other than bass but was never into the more technical aspects of it. Just put me on the water and let me have at em! With that said we have been upgrading our gear and this is some of the higher end stuff I have. Do I have them paired correctly? What is missing? I have a couple of big trips coming up for both bass and walleye and want to make sure I am set up as best I can. Would also like recommendation on the line you would put on each as well! Thanks!!

Baitcasting:

G Loomis IMX66MHF 783CMBR currently with Abu Garcia Revo SX 7.1.1
St. Croix Legend Tourney TBC68MHF with Shimano Chronarch CI4+ 7.6.1
St. Croix Legend Elite EC70MHF with Daiwa Tatula Type R 6.3.1
St. Croix Mojo Bass Glass Crankster MJGC74MM thinking Curado 5.5.1
*** *** Black OB2C76MH *** *** 8.1.1

spare reel- Daiwa Tatula Tactical 7.3.1 was thinking pairing with G Loomis IMX853CJWR MHSF. I believe this would be too fast for my crank bait rod??

Spinning:

G Loomis IMX 66MHFSJR783 with Daiwa 2500C
St Croix Legend Elite ES70MHF with Shimano Stradic CI4+
G Loomis Walleye 71ML WRR85015 with Pflueger Patriarch
St Croix Avid X AXS68MXF thinking to pair with Shimano Stradic FK- either 2500 or 3000.

thanks in advance for the advice and suggestions....

Your setups are great. Asking what line to use for all their setups might make it more confusing becasue your gonna get a bunch of different responses. For a general answer, I'd Use 30-50lb braid or 12-20lb fluoro on the fast set ups(baitcaster). 15-20lb braid on your spinning setups. 10-14lb fluoro or mono on your cranking reels.

Welcome aboard!

Father of 4 boys from 12-19 here!

I use 20# on my baitcaster, but @Kidflex's recommendation

is solid.

For spinning reels I use 10 and 15#. And I use a leader for

everything, but it's not a requirement. Reason for braid is

that nothing really compares to it when it comes to line

management. Especially on spinning reels. No coiling line

jumping off the spool....

Thanks for the recommendation.  Do you use leaders for any/all of these?  Thoughts on that?

As for leaders, I use them on every setup. There's a LOT

of debate here on this topic, and frankly, it doesn't really

matter if you use one or not. Here's my quick reasoning,

and it's just one reason, but it's good enough for me:

Power Pro and Power Pro Super Slick 8 braids are not the

cheapest out there, so I like to keep as much of it on my

reels as I can. I tend to retie hooks a number of times

during an outing, and by using a leader I don't cut into

the braided mainline as often, thereby extending its life

a bit.

If you learn to tie a good leader knot, be it a uni-to-uni,

an Alberto/Albright, an FG knot, you can have 100%

confidence in the knot. I know I do with uni-to-uni and

mod'd Albright/alberto knots.

That argument (leader or not) gets "religious" in nature

so suffice it to say, use one or don't. The above is a solid

reason for me.

What size/lb leader are you using?

Anywhere from 4-15#

But of late it has been 6, 8, and 10# fluoro.
