Thought my mind was made up on a Humminbird Helix but found I can get a great deal on this Garmin Striker 7sv and its peaked my interest  https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/528825

Its a bigger screen and has side imaging, Anyone offer some insite on this model or knows more about it ?

Thanks!

I just bought the 73SV Friday night. Haven't had time to install it yet. Work keeps getting in the way haha. But I was like you, I was dead set on a Helix 7 until I started messing with this one at the store.

That would be a good unit if you don't need mapping.

I mainly got it for the chirp downvu, mapping will help, I am going to a few lakes this summer that I haven't been to.

So this unit has Down and side imaging ?

SV units have both SideVu and ClearVu (used to be called DownVu).

DV or CV units just have the Down

Remember what Wayne said there's no mapping! If it's not a big deal than go for it.

It does have GPS, waypoint marking, and trails.  But if you need maps, you'd be out of luck.

Now whats the difference between The Srtiker and the Echomap besides mapping ?? This all so much to absorb when trying to make the best buy LOL.

With the 73sv you have maps, you also have the ability to map your own with QuickDraw.  You can save screenshots on an SD card (Striker has no card slot) and can upgrade maps to LakeVu HD Ultra, is Panoptix compatible, and can transfer waypoints from non Garmin unit.

Agree...I was looking at the Striker but elected to go with the Echomap 73sv for all of the reasons that you mentioned.

Very happy with the Echomap that I picked up last year at BPS for around the same price as the Striker 7 even though it is the non-chirp model.
