daviswill Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I need to buy a new rod around that price range. It's going to be a Medium Fast and between 7'-7'3". I'm looking at Duckett, Dobyns, St. Croix, and Fitzgerald. Any suggestions? Quote

Fishinggeek Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I would go with St.Croix mojo bass or TFO signature series. Personally I think TFO is pretty underrated. They are priced well and are great quality. Quote
GreenGhostMan Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I have a few Dobyn's Fury rods. I like them and use them a lot. But I would suggest a Daiwa Tatula rod. sportsmansoutfitters.com has them for $109. Heck of a deal for that price. I actually just ordered my 2nd Tatula from them this morning. Very light, great balance, very sensitive, strong backbone and they look like a $200+ rod. The negatives some people mention are the small diameter grip and the short stubby trigger. Neither of these bother me at all, but everyone is different. Can't go wrong with a Dobyn's Fury, but for the price of $109, the Tatula is hands down better. 2 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 14, 2017 Super User Posted February 14, 2017 I'm all about testing in-store before buying, so @Choporoz is right there. Of the rods you have mentioned, St. Croix is the only one I've used. I've handled Ducket, but they didn't strike my fancy. Not that it matters since it's my fancy. Quote
Oklahoma Mike Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I would go with the St Croix or Dobyns. You can get an AvidX at the upper end of that price range. Quote
dsqui Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Hands down dobyns pair it with a lews reel in that range and u have and awesome setup Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted February 15, 2017 Super User Posted February 15, 2017 Been looking at Cashion rods.....believe one will be in the boat soon. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 15, 2017 Super User Posted February 15, 2017 If it were me, I'd be looking at either the St. Croix AvidX Quote

MJinMN Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I believe the Mojo Bass uses the same SCIII blank as the Avid and Avid X, seems like good quality within the target price range...? Quote
AC870 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Don't hear much on this brand but I bought a $99 Bull Dawg I like. Quote

Didn't like the previous Mojo bass model, but have tried the present models and like them a lot. Gonna get a 7'1" MHF model from BPS with the trade in. I like the components on the Rage series better, but I can get used to the Mojo fast enough. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted February 16, 2017 Super User Posted February 16, 2017 First question is this rod going to be an all around use rod or more for bottom contact baits, crankbait spinnerbait etc or what. If it is to be an all around rod then consider a Dobyns Fury 734C, Another nice option would a Powell Inferno 683CEF or 703CEF. Quote
