Lowest memory mono

I am going to try mono on one of my rigs this season. I have been braid for about the last 3 years but I want to keep one spooled with mono. What is the best mono currently on the market for a spinning rod (only reason I am going with mono is when I need some stretch).

 

Also the river I fish is pretty shallow, fast, and rocky.

Back in the day I used a lot of mono. I'd say the best I found

in terms of limpness was Trilene XL... I'm sure that's been

surpassed these days, but I could use it down to smaller spool

spinning reels (ultra lights).

I use Berkley Big Game a lot, and highly recommend it. It does have slightly more memory than Trilene XL, however is much stronger and abrasion resistant as well as less stretchy. Good for those rocks you mention.

Trilene XL is the limpest line I have ever used, as well as the stretchiest.

Check out McCoy mean green. Very little memory if any at all and has great abrasion resistance. Also it wouldn't hurt to add some kvd line and lure to your list. That stuff is no joke

Regardless of brand ~ Most ALL Nylon Line will benefit from a little splash of this stuff.

In my experience, 'Berkley Trilene XL' where XL stands for Xtra Limp.

I used XL for many years.  Still do, but another soft line I like is Sufix Elite.  Keep saying I want to try Mean Green, but haven't found any locally and trying every line you would like to takes some time....and $$$$.

years ago i was fond of Super Silver Thread. now it's XL. but you had better make sure to be a line checker and re-tie as needed!

I would hope it is some good stuff.  Costs more than the braid I use.

About 2-3x the cost of the most mono lines out there but IMO it is truly supreme for all attributes that you want in a mono. Little memory, very good castability, small diameter, good not strength, and pretty strong.

What pound test are you planning on using? I use 8lb on one of my spinning rods for small cranks and jerks and most any mono is pretty manageable in anything under 10lb. I've been using Seaguar Senshi and like it really well.

Either 6 or 8 haven't decided yet but likely 6. Senshi was one of the lines I was really looking at.

I looked at this as well but tacklewarehouse doesn't have it in 6-8 lb test. Also the 11lb is a good bit thicker than the 6-8 lb Senshi I am looking at.

Trilene XL is the limpest line I have ever used, as well as the stretchiest. 

 

Agree with this guy.  Trilene XL is very limp, but also very stretchy.

Only monofilaments I use are Berkley Big Game and Trilene XL. For a spinning reel, XL is the way to go.

I don't use mono. I have been using Silver Thread Excalibur co-polymere. very low stretch and less abrasive than any other line I have used. I fish rocks often and this line really holds up. difficult to find. Tackle Warehouse is the only place I can still get it. I use it on spinning as well as casting reels.

I only fish mono (though I may switch that up with one, heavy setup this year) and only with spinning gear. Yeah, I'm weird and old and get off my lawn, etc.

 

If you can't pull it out of a pond with a good rod/reel spooled with Trilene XL, you probably don't want it in the boat with you.   There are lots of good mono, but it's hard to beat the quality-to-price proposition of the biggies like Trilene and Stren.

Two problems that cause "coiling" in monofilament, copolymer, or fluorocarbon.

 

Small spool diameter & your reel not being used.

 

I find that the longer my line is not in use the more coils I get, so I go fishing more often.
