Hello all!

I'm in the market for a new swimjig rod.  Would also like to use it for spinnerbaits/chatterbaits and the occasional lipless crank.  I have a 6'10" MH-Fast Daiwa Tatula paired with a Lew's Tournament MB and absolutely love it for texas rigging and jigs 3/8 and under.  Would like to get another Tatula for swimjigs and chatterbaits, but I'm not exactly sure which action to get.  I'm thinking the 7'2" MH-Regular (TAT721MHRB).  Does anyone have any experience with this rod?  Or would you suggest a different action?   Not sure exactly what regular means... I would think it means moderate, but from what I've read a lot of people say the Tatula regular is more like mod-fast.  If this is true, mod-fast is sort of what I'm looking for.  Any input would be appreciated!

Want to add another rod to my arsenal.  I would like to be able to keep a texas rig on my Tatula without having to retie. Currently using it for swimjigs, but its a little stiffer than I would like for swimjigs and chatterbaits.

I have that rod.  It's perfect for what you're looking for.  Regular in Daiwa is the same as fast in Dobyns-ese.  Not moderate by any means.

Awesome.  I have a Fury 733 and it's a great action, but feels more like a medium than a MH to me.  Sort of want that same bend action but beefier backbone.

I also bought this rod last year for swim jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits etc. Like @webertime said, it's by no means a moderate rod. I'd say it's more like a mod-fast to even a fast depending what you're used to. But it should be very good for what you are looking for. Although honestly your current 6'10" MHF Tatula could probably do the job as well.

Thanks MassYak.  I'm currently using my 6'10" for swim jigs right now too, but would like to make it my texas rig rod.  Have the funds to buy a new set up and would like to just keep a texas rig on my 6'10 and not have to retie when I reach for a swimjig or vice versa.

Yup. I have the 7'2'' regular and I would say it is on the faster side of mod fast.  I think it is perfect for swimjigs, chatterbaits and spinner baits. Mine is almost exclusive to chatterbaits though.  I just picked up an aetos 6'8'' MHF for another swimjig, chatter, spinner rod that I am anticipating using more for swimjigs.  we'll see though.

i'd buy another 6'10" MH/F ....  i have one and it's the most well rounded and versatile rod i use.  i'd see no problem with having two of them if they suit all your needs!

Think of it as a 734.5.  Mine is a mostly dedicated 4.8" Keitech on a swimbait hook rod.  I also throw 3/8-1/2 swim jigs and chatter baits with it.   Really any moving single hook bait.

I also use the 7' 2" MH/R for swim jigs, it is an absolutely amazing rod for swim jigs and spinner baits.

Sweetness... You guys sold me.  Just placed my order at sportsmansoutfitters.  They have them for $109.  Pairing it with a Lews LFS.  Thanks for all the input!

Sounds perfect for my intended use.

Will it launch (not lob cast, but launch) 1 oz total payload? In my experience mod-fast tapers are a little more forgiving in the lure rating department...hard to find that 3/4 - 1.25oz launcher in that "japanese mod-fast" action w/o going too heavy!

It will.  I throw 4.8 Keitech (.4 oz) on a 1/2 oz chatterbait with no issue.

TDZ 100ml  30lb braid with a 16lb Fluoro leader

So I just weighed my 3/4 oz + trailer...the package came out to 1.6 oz! I had no idea the trailer weighed so much...

Back to the drawing board I guess. Hard to find that 7' - 7'4 med-fast taper w/o going JDM...I just picked up a MB Hyuga 72H, rated to 3 oz, thought it was overkill for this application but maybe not!

Look at the Phenix Recon at tw, the 766 (I also have) has a similar action, a bit faster, but still sort of jdm-ish.

The regular Tatula tapers are much closer to a fast taper than moderate, I have used mine for lots of fast taper applications and love it.
