looking to get a flippin pitchin rod that can do some punching as that's not a technique I have the option to do a lot. And also be able to handle a few other techniques like Carolina rigging. I mainly fish from the bank but once in a while do go out on a boat. I have a powell inferno 7`2 frog rod and wasn't sure if that would really handle what I'm looking to do to well. Also not looking to go to big 7`6 being the biggest I'm willing to go. My question is, is the 735c or 765 flip the right options?

How many people here have experience with either rod and what is your opinion on it

I tend to lean towards the 745. For some reason that length and taper fit me the best. I can tell you I also have the 795 flipping stick that can handle all of those needs as well. The good news is you have chosen a great brand and will not go wrong with any of the choices. May I suggest calling Richard and speaking with him. They will talk with you and usually give some great insight and options you may not have thought of.

Thanks. I'm trying to venture out and tend to buy two different rod sizes from a company each time I buy a new rod to see how I feel about that particular company. But since I'm looking for a multi purpose flipping pitching punching rod figured I would go with dobyns as ive wanted to try out their product. Who is Richard?

These are your options with Dobyns:

Fury 765 flip

Sierra 766 Flip

Champion 765, 766, 736

Extreme HP 746, 795

All will perform the techniques you are looking at.  All are braid friendly.

I have a Champion 765 Flip and it's the rod I would lean towards.  I also have an Extreme 795 and it's a better punching rod when your lighter weight is an ounce. The 766 is a bit too stiff for my liking but it's very popular.

Good luck

I was looking at the champion and the fury series. As stated punching will be very few and far. Will be used more for like flippin and Carolina rigs

Either

Champion 744 (not the 744 extreme)

or

Extreme 795

those would be my picks

765 flip or 746 hp. I use my flip more for throwing larger swim jigs.

I use my 746 hp for heavy jigs and some punching. It's a beast of a rod with great sensitivity.

I use my 735 champion for frogging only.

And he`ll talk to anybody?

Well, not anyone. Only those that know the secret handshake or whose first name starts with "J".

Depending on what day you call, you might get stuck talking to Gary Dobyns and all he did was design these rods. I would bet you bag of Senkos he would recommend the Champion 766C.  Wanna Bet ?

If that is what he suggested I believe it will work great. I also believe the 765 flip would work also.

Anyway a new Champion DC 735C goes for $259.99 and is available in both a full cork handle and in a split cork handle.  If you are interested in getting one of those rods, but would like to spend less money, I recommend you go on their website. Click on "store" on the top menu ( little red letters).  Choose refurbed Dobyns rods. then choose refurbed champion rods.

There is a #21 a refurbed 735C and it says it is a trade in great condition rod. That means it was traded in and fully inspected by the staff and determined to have no defects other than wear from use and it was determined to be in great wear condition.  Sometimes the note for one of these rods might say refurbed and 1 guide repaired or some wear on cork.

This 735C is going for $180 so quite a savings for a bit of use. They also have a split grip version #34 on the last page. That rod says trade in no repairs great condition and sells for $190.Again quite a discount for a lightly used rod. These rods carry a warranty so no worry either.   Also there is a refurbed 766 FLIP for $180, says minor cork repair was done and it has a few scratches on the blank.. No big deal but these give somme great rods at a reduced price.  Problem for me is I have the rod monkey on my shoulder, he is the cousin to the bait monkey and he is just as big of a trouble maker too!!!  :lol-045:

Ill look into that thanks. That rod monkey you speak of will probably cause me to but both the 735c and the 765flip as it never allows me to only buy one rod at a time. But ive also never purchased a high end rod. My most expensive rod is a powell inferno and like my other rods the rod monkey causes me to atleast buy two rods when ever I decided to try a new company. For example I have two shimanos, two abu garcias, and two powells. And will probably end up getting two dobyns.  :computer-22:

That he does. Maybe he`ll start leaving me alone since I pretty much have most areas covered now. Besides a good spinning rod and a flipping rod. But then again he`ll probably decide to start upgrading the lower end stuff for higher end
