My wife and I are getting close to getting our CCW.  Does anyone who has theirs tried the urban carry holsters?  I really like the concept and the price point (55-105) seems to be a really good deal.

I haven't tried that brand but have tried other holsters that have a cover. I can tell you this. I don't like the idea of having a lid on my CC. Its one more step that I have to go thru to get to my gun.

That is a good point.  I like the idea of it being completely concealed, and the added comfort of the way the gun sits on your body.

BladeTech Klipt, very comfortable and light and not pricey around $50

Appendix carry is something only a few people (and body types) care for. Despite what their "cool videos" may show you, you need to take into consideration if you are a bigger (a beer belly/gut) person, appendix carry is far from ideal. Appendix carry (AIWB) is also very uncomfortable if you have to sit down, especially for extended periods of time. The size of the firearm also is another factor to consider for how/where you carry.

If neither of you have ever owned a handgun or carried, I would recommend going to a local shop and asking them about different ways to conceal carry. YouTube is also a great tool to learn about carrying. Inside the waistband (IWB) at the 3-4-5 o'clock position is the most common carry position and is how I carry 90% of the time. During the winter, whenever I wear heavier/bulkier clothes/jackets, I will carry outside the waistband (OWB). This is the most comfortable way to carry, but it also requires the most demand from how you dress.

As a skinnier dude, I find appendix to be the most comfortable, most concealed and fastest in terms of presentation. But you definitely need to consider what fishballer said. The urban carry though, seems not only like a total gimmick, but it eliminates any chance of a seated draw. I would try out a few different styles of real holsters and see what works for you both.

As an American loving, red blooded, beer drinking, meat-eating, overweight man; I prefer to use an Uncle Mikes ankle holster anytime I wear jeans/pants. I will carry in my cargo pocket in my shorts during the Summer. I have never been in a SHTF situation (and hope not to) but I assume having a gun on you (no matter where) is better than no gun at all.

That's reason enough for me.

When do you think you are still going to be seated that you feel your life is in danger to actually draw your weapon on someone???? Is this the old West poker game cheating scenario?????

I would think one would at least be engaged in a confrontation before deciding to shoot.

Appendix carry can be a lot different based on what you're carrying.  For me, a  little subcompact is a lot different than my P229.

My vehicle for one instance...

Just like how I don't just put a seatbelt on only when I feel I might drive in a reckless area.

I wear my gun 24/7 unless I am staying home for the night, and since I wear it so often, I prefer a package (AIWB) I can access in any position (seated, standing, running, knocked on your back...)

Just like insurance you never know when you'll need it but it will be d**n good to have.

Just my thought process and I don't expect everyone to adhere to it.

Oh, I see. When I'm in my truck it sits on top of the console next to me lol

I haven't really found a good spot for it in my car yet. Thought about mounting a holster in there but haven't gotten around to it.

I'm looking for something similar to this.

In all honesty, I am worried about a road rage incident where my gun may fall off my center console

Edit***** Just making sure you notice that you can get that in an elegant pinstripe gift bag with sparkly tissue LOL

That looks pretty good as a set up. I drive standard but it looks like it should clear legs and all.

In a car/bus/train. Sitting in an office (doctors, work, bank, etc).

If you're caught off guard in a public place (while sitting) like I mentioned, standing up is going to draw direct attention to yourself.

My Mrs purchased a great pocketbook with a side compartment that fits her shield perfectly.

He'll, she can shoot right the the bag if the situation allows

I try to almost always have an ankle rig on also in an urban environment. My knees are shot (replaced) so E&E are kinda out of the question. Getting down to draw in a public area does 2 things for you, it makes your draw less visible and allows you to present a smaller target profile.

Just $0.02 from an old fat guy!

I perfer a shoulder holster lined with suede. I ccw a ruger Redhawk in 44mag with a 5 1/2" & a 7 1/2" barrels I switch between them summer and winter. With two speed loaders. Most of the time. I do carry handgun with a in the pants holster covered up just about anywhere.  When fishing the cz82 in 9mm mak is my partner.

I been packing heat since 1975. Back in 70's when they stabbed that night fisherman near boston I feared copycats but never gave up fishing. I was packing a 1911 with seven magazines and a box of ammo in the car. "NO FEAR" just fished.

I as a bigger rounded man bought an aliengear shape shifter holster and love it. Gives you several different configurations to chose from. Plus it offers a way to mount in the car if you buy a separate clamshell. Also you can buy different clamshells for each model gun you carry and works with the shape shifter mounts.

Ask the guy here in SC that shot and killed a robber in a Waffle House about seated draw......

When I got my carry permit and my cc permit, I went throw a couple of hundred dollars worth of holsters over the course of three years trying to find the right one.

And in the end of all that I went right back to what I always have used a hip style holster, that I don't even bother to cover up any more.

If I'm not using that one I have a custom thigh holster that allows me to quick loosen and slid the pistol from my right side of my right thigh to the top of my thigh when seated and can cinch it back tight in seconds.

For me those two holsters fix all the issues.

People tell me all the time why do you carry your pistol in plan sight.

My response, if you can see it from far off your more likey to not try something stupid because you know I have what it takes to kill you.

This is just my thoughts but carrying concealed is a waist of time, I want everyone to see I'm armed and not ashamed or concerned with what they think about it.

You are also subject to being the first guy to get popped when something goes down. Open carry puts you at risk and totally negates the element of surprise that you would otherwise have.
