Crowcommander Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 I'm planning on fishing a few river tournaments and I need to add a livewell pump to my 1650 express river boat. It has a 15x30 box in it that I put bluegills in but I throw a bilge pump over the side and pumpwater in and out as I need to. My Question is there a kit or some recommendation of some brand to get and should I drill 2 holes in the back or just 1 and maybe 1 in the side. Just wondering. Any help or advise would be helpful. Thanks Crowcommander Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 12, 2017 Super User Posted February 12, 2017 Are you looking to do something permanent? Does the box currently have a drain or overflow, or are you doing everything manually? Are you looking for just an aerator(fill) or aerator and recirculator? You can get by with 1 pump to aerate and recircif it's plumbed properly. Attwood should carry everything you need, but you may need to piece everything together rather then buy a kit. Quote
Crowcommander Posted February 13, 2017 Author Posted February 13, 2017 Slonezp the box is just a dry box.It has nopump or anything in it. I throw a bilge pump over the side and pump water in it for bluegills to bait trot lines with.I put the bilge in the box to pump it out with. I know you're thinking why don't you do this in a bass tourney. because this tourney allows only 1 dead fish and after that you're disqualified. during the summer its critical to have enough water. I need to get this done and have considered getting a dealer to do it. I just hate paying an arm and leg. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 13, 2017 Super User Posted February 13, 2017 At the bare minimum you will need to drill 2 holes. A drain/overflow, and an aerator/fill. The aerator would be near the top of the box and the drain/overflow on the bottom. Do you have access to the underside of the box to install a fitting and plumbing? Check out the attwood marine website and the TH marine website, they have all the thru fittings, pumps and hoses you will need. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 13, 2017 Super User Posted February 13, 2017 If you're looking for different ways to do it, check out flowrite's website.https://flow-rite.com/marine/ There you can take a look at the livewell builder and it will give you a complete parts list, some you can shave off if expense is an issue. Should be pretty easy to install yourself as long as you have access to to the places you need to. I suggest using either system 2, 3, or 4 to keep installation simple as possible, and hole drilling to a minimum. 2 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 14, 2017 Super User Posted February 14, 2017 I believe you can use a cooler, and there are kits available with all the plumbing, connections, valves and a pump. Hot water and live wells are not the best for survival rates. You can freeze a gallon jug of water, and throw it in the cooler. It should help keep the water cooler, hopefully enough to make a difference. there are also additives that help keep oxygen levels up. Try googling cooler live well kits. Here's one. https://www.westmarine.com/buy/marine-metals--super-saver-pump-kit--304446?cm_mmc=PS-_-Google-_-Shopping_PLAs-_-304446&product_id=304446&adpos=1o2&creative=108421551844&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CI3QpZGmjtICFUe5wAodpgkLIQ Search for it on Amazon, and you'll find several options.
