This may have been discussed, but I didn't find it and wanted to let people know why. A friend saw helmet in the boat and commented how safety conscious I was, and he saw some of the pros wearing them in tournaments. I told him it I'm sure it was safer, but that had nothing to do with why I wore it. It has to do with staying warm.  If you haven't tried it you should.  You can buy a full face helmet from wally world for $42.  If it's pouring rain or below 50 you might think it's the best $42 you ever spent on fishing equipment.

Just make sure you wear a full vest pfd with neck support.  A helmet, while warm, can be dangerous with some pfds if you are ejected from the boat at speed.  The added weight and pressure from hitting the water can do some nasty neck damage.  I fish year round and stay plenty warm with a save phase style face cover and a full head covering fleece.

I ride a variety of motorcycles as well.  Lol I crash my dirt bikes a lot and haven't broken my neck yet.

Blasting across open water means I get to do my best Peter Parker impersonation.

When you feel like someone is stealing the air out from in front of your face while you try to breathe, you are probably going 50+ in a bass boat in sub 40 air temps with just a face mask on because you're too cheap to buy a save phace. I am very familiar with that feeling :D

I saw these and came close to buying one.  They look like they would be great for fishing.  We have a few motorcycles as well so the helmets won out.  They do a good keeping you warm on the bikes too.

I also use the Save Phace mask. When it's in the teens and I'm running 50mph across the lake, I wonder how I ever did it without one.

LOL,  Southerners do not do well with cold or snow.  A close friend lives in Maine and posted pictures of him out on the ice fishing.  I'm not that mad at the fish.

Its not the mask that disturbs us, its the fact that you're wearing the rest of the costume with it. :o:lol:

The bass don't really seem to mind but the cashier at the Quik Mart certainly had a lot of questions  ..  ..  ..

Hitting the ground and hitting the water are 2 different things.  Air resistance and impact protection vs water resistance and impact protection are 2 complete different forces.  You'll never see a high speed boat racer run with anything other than a full vest with neck support.  None of the motorcycle racers do.  There's a reason.
