I need a new frogging reel for this 2017 season, but I'm quite conflicted about what reel to get. Im looking for something in a 8.0:1 gear ratio or higher, and would also like to be able to bomb a frog a mile when need be. My price cap is $200, but preferably I want to stay around $150. So far I have considered the Curado XG, Lews BB1 pro, Daiwa tatula R, and the Abu Garcia REVO Rocket. I have a 200I curado and love the way it feels and casts, but I'm worried the spool capacity on the XG size is not enough. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

I would hands down recommend the Super Duty in 8:1. The Lew's BB1 is pretty good too, that's what I've used up until I converted my Super Duty.

My choice is a Diawa Tatula Type R 8-1 left handed reel. I love that thing and fishing that one made me happy enough I purchased 3 more type Rs. I sold off Curados and Chronarcs. I also own 2 Tatula CTs and like them just as much. You may like them better than the original since they are closer to your Shimano in size. I think the T wing makes a bit of a difference.

Based on what your looking at for reels, I would base my decision on which had the highest inches per turn. To me, this is one of the most important decision in buying a frog reel.

Exactly what i use my bb1 pro for. And although it isnt on your list, look at the Speed Freak by Quantum. I have one, tough as nails. 35 ipt on that. I know TT did a review on it. But again, a bb1 pro is what i have and use for frogs. Love it. Oh, and welcome aboard!

I've had good luck with the BPS Titanium 8 reel, one of the only BPS reels I've owned that I actually liked. It bombs frogs out there and burns them back in when I need to.

This is what I am looking at for a froggin reel and they are going to be on sale in a few days.  Even better if you have a trade in.

That's when I bought mine, during the reel trade in last year. I got the very first one the BPS by me got in stock.
