Okay, let's say I have $100 to spend on a new reel for this year. The three that I'm looking at are: Daiwa Tatula CT 100HS, Abu Garcia Revo SX and the Bass Pro Qualifier. The Pro Qualifier will be on sale during their Spring Classic for $50 while the other two reels I can get for $90 off of eBay. Pros/Cons for these reels and recommendations?

You are going to get a ton of pro qualifier votes but I gotta say I like the Tatula series a lot.  Lots of options and you can get pretty technique specific with them.

I bought 2 Pro Qualifiers last year. One of them I just could not get to stop back lashing so that one went back. The other one has been just fine. I traded the other one back for a Carbonlite and I have had zero issues with that one either.

I just bought a Tatula Type R last weekend and can't wait to try it out this coming weekend.

Even though I haven't owned one myself, but I would recommend the Tatula if you just want one reel with updated technology.  However, I own 3 PQs and they are just awesome work horse reels.  If you bought 2 of them, you then would have an excuse to get another rod.  What I'm trying to say is, there are pros and cons but I'm sure either will be fine.

My vote goes to the Tat CT.  I only have one, and didn't use it a ton last season, but for the price, I don't think there's much better out there.

I have had lots of BPS reels including the special edition purple Rick Clunn reels ( I still have 2) which was essentially a pro Qualifier and I still fish 4 Extremes.  I have sold off all of my Shimano Curados and Chronarchs and will be selling off the BPS reels slowly as the budget allows. I have gone to Diawas exclusively.  I own 1 Exceler, 4 Tatula Type R and my newest ones are 2 Tatula CTs.  I really like how these reels cast. These reels have adjustable magnetic brakes. They also have a moving drum on the spool which adds  non adjustable, automatic centrifugal breaking.

The combination of the magnetic brakes and the moving drum on the spool make it easy to adjust without having to open a side plate at all.  Just adjust the cast control and set the magnetic dial and your done.

I chase bass, stripers and frequently catch large blue catfish and they will test a drag system.

I've always loved Abu reels, I also just ordered my first daiwa (Laguna) but have no experience with them.

Never used a bps reel either.

I have both and the PQ is a great reel for the money. The Tatula CT is an amazing reel for the money. However 2 PQ for 100 bucks is a tough deal to pass up if you ask me.Id go with the PQs and but another rod.

Came here to say this^

Yes, the Tatula is a better reel. But those BPS PQ's are a good vale at their regular price point and a steal at $50. Get 2 of them and slap one on your next rod.

I know its not on the list but I just got a bps bionic plus and it is great. I learned on a pro qualifier and still have one as a hand-me down. I am sold on bps reels for the price.

The bionic plus was on sale for 60 it is worth every penny with the features it has.

I only have experience with the Pro Qualifier out of those 3 but it's a solid reel and is the oldest one in my lineup right now. I just changed out the drag washers a couple weeks ago because they were shot from me using it as a frog reel for the past 3 years and had the drag locked down but I can't complain. It's been a workhorse for me and has seen a lot of abuse. And if you can get it for 50 bucks that's hard to pass up.

I personally like the tatula and out of the three you have listed would probably go with that. Have you Considered the Caenan From Shimano? I have seen a ton off good reviews on it!

man that's a tough question.  go feel them ask them to put it on a rod feel balance. getting 2 reels for the price of one, or go for a little more quality?. I do know for an extra $24 you can get a stx,  love mine. but I also respect these other gentlemens years of experience and knowlage of the products that work for them. good luck with your choice, do what feels right for you. heck you can always sell them or trade up.

The Tatula is nice, I have one and like it. But check out Lew's. You can get their excellent Tournament MB for a few dollars more if you shop around and their low end Speed Spool reels for about the same price as a Tatula. Excellent reels for the money.
