wdp Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 So, I've decided I wanna fish full-time. Not tourney fishing, but just full-time fishing for fun. Unfortunately, I'll have to quit my job so I'll need to find a way to fund this endeavor. Besides winning the lottery (which will never happen) or finding me a sugar mama (which my wife will not allow), what other options do I have for financially supporting this dream? I need ideas! P.S. Please feel free to send donations to "Help wdp Fun Fish for Life". These donations are not tax deductible. ? 7 Quote
OCdockskipper Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I can make a donation. I have an old saltwater rod that a neighbor gave me & I was going to use for the BPS trade-in sale, but I'll donate it to you. just stop by the next time you are in the area. As for financial ideas, I watched a TV series recently where a middle aged man did very well financially by getting in the Meth business. I believe it was a documentary... 8 Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted February 9, 2017 Super User Posted February 9, 2017 One way is to get good on a body of water and become a Guide, that's what I did. BUT.....be advised, once you turn it into $$, it's no longer "fun" it's now a job. Oh the stories I could tell about guiding. 2 Quote
lonnie g Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 as to time wise. my step dad used to tell me. if your wife ask you to do something, mess it up as bad as you can. she will never ask you to do it again!. for the financial side. write a letter to your congressman , heck they seem to want to finance everything else. if this works let me know, ill do the same,LOL 2 Quote
wdp Posted February 9, 2017 Author Posted February 9, 2017 I like the idea of letting our Congressmen pay for it. At least it'll be something they did worthwhile for a change. ? 1 Quote

Problem solved. If you have any more problems you need a hand with just ask. I'm always around here somewhere. 2 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted February 9, 2017 Global Moderator Posted February 9, 2017 Get the addresses of everybody in the United States send them a letter asking for $1. Who wouldn't be willing to part with $1? Your profile shows you're a Nigerian prince....you have millions in the bank you just need somebody to fork over the cash to get it out. Just give them 15% who wouldn't want that kind of return? Both are fool proof! I can't believe nobody else thought of it? I wish I were a Nigerian prince! Some people have all the luck. 2 Quote
CTBassin860 Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 you could build a tepee, then live off the fish you catch for food. Then the government would take your tepee away for non tax payments. Then you could get a job at Mcdonalds for 15 an hour and start over. 3 Quote
frogflogger Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 guiding is the best way I know of for a person of limited wealth - it's up to you if you are going to enjoy doing the job 1 Quote

Been doing it for a decade and wouldn't care if I ever saw another trout. And I only do it on weekends April-December. I used to love trout fishing 1 hour ago, MassBassin508 said: you could build a tepee, then live off the fish you catch for food. Then the government would take your tepee away for non tax payments. Then you could get a job at Mcdonalds for 15 an hour and start over. wdp Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 Thanks for all the ideas guys. Of course, I started this thread as a joke. Would love to fish more, but who amongst us wouldn't. As far as the Breaking Bad references, no thanks. I'm a chemist by trade, but not that kinda chemist. It always cracks me up when people I know think I already know how to cook meth or make some other drug. I wouldn't have the 1st clue. And of course, would never engage in anything illegal. I have to say........ I do like the idea of everybody donating a dollar to my cause. Maybe I should start a Go Fund Me site. ???? 1 Quote

Super User Scott F Posted February 10, 2017 Super User Posted February 10, 2017 I'm doing it. Here's the way I did it. I worked 36 years for the same company and built up my 401k. I wore my back out to the point I can no longer do the job I did for all these years. I retired, I'm collecting long term disability and a pension. You need to get hurt bad enough that you can't work, but not so bad you can't fish. Good luck! 1 Quote

One other option may be to start a sanctuary lake. I mean who cares who pays for it we could just all move a bunch of non licensed fishermen out there and get the local government worry about paying the bills. 3 hours ago, everythingthatswims said: The guys on here love vlog style youtube fishing content No offence but count me out on vlogs. I find those vlogs less than entertaining. 1 Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted February 10, 2017 Super User Posted February 10, 2017 Annnd the simple way is to do what I did many years ago and simple carry a light rod and reel in car and fish either before work or after for a few minutes every day. Also carried a rod with me when I was on board a ship in the Navy. I was am still addicted...but healing I may add. At that time it was an old eagle claw pack rod which I still have....good memories. P.S. No I'm not donating Quote
