I recently acquired an Ambassador 5000c that hadn't been used in years. I attempted to disassemble and clean it, but quickly realized I had dug myself a hole too deep to climb out of. Is there anywhere I could send it to have it professionally rebuilt? It is definitely not under warranty but I am willing to pay to have it rebuilt. Thank you.

Head to a local tackle shop or contact a bass club in your area. I'm sure they will know someone who does that near you. I know alot of the guys in my club, including myself all use the same guy and we recommend him to any one in need of general maintenance or even extensive repair. The local guy is going to be less expensive than sending it off to some far away shop and you will be "spending locally".

Somebody in your area works on reels, call your local fishing store and see if they can point you to the.  FYI.. and you probably know that there is an exploded view of most reels made on the web.  It really helps sometimes to see how everything goes together.

Here is an exploded 5000C diagram.

I currently have 4 Ambassadeurs (one of which is a 5000C) from the '70's to the '90's. I've taken them apart many times for cleaning. One of the simpler reels to work on actually. What is the problem you are experiencing? The biggest deal with these fine baitcasters is to segment them into 3 sections, which you work on, one at a time; Frame, Left side, Right side.

Remember, if you send it to an outlet for repair, it's gonna cost you! Quite a bit too, if you factor in shipping charges.

Like Crestliner said, those old Ambassadeurs are pretty easy to work on, compared to some of the more modern designs.

There are probably some online tutorials on youtube that will point you in the right direction.

If you lived close to me, I'd take a look at it for no charge:D

Good luck, I'm sure you can figure it out!

If you decide to give it another diy try I'll help all I can. If you want to send it in the cost is only $19.80 ($22-10%). Shipping is about $6. You're looking at $32 all in. It's your call. Let me know if you need anything.

I dabble a little with Ambassadeurs now and then. A 5000C is a pretty easy reel to work on. If you'd like pictures of an assembled reel, feel free to message me.

Interesting! I have a W&M casting reel I took apart to fix. Got the problem fixed but now the brakes aren't working properly. I'm going to consider sending it in to you. Good to know!
