fishitup Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 I am new to this forum but I want to ask the age old question. I have a 14 ft Sea King and want to stabilize it with pvc pipe. Should I use 6" or 4"? Has anyone done this, I've seen a lot of post but no definite answers or pics. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 8, 2017 Super User Posted February 8, 2017 Can't help you with that, but welcome to the forums! Quote

flyingmonkie Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 6" PVC? I don't know that I've ever seen anyone recommend that. The consensus that I seem to recall is to opt for solid fiberglass push poles in the .75-1.25" diameter range. Welcome aboard! Quote

I've seen plenty of 6" and 4" pvc outriggers, were you maybe thinking he meant for use as stake out poles? Or did I misunderstand his question? Like this? 1 Quote
flyingmonkie Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Doh! Nope you're right, I misread his question. 1 Quote

But back to what you were talking about... do you know where someone would buy those fiberglass rods for making DIY stake outs? Id like to make one for my kayak but I have no clue what type of business sells those?? Quote
flyingmonkie Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Several manufacturers sell them in the $100 range. I've seen these but have no experience with them: http://www.shop.coolwaterproducts.com/Shallow-Water-Anchors_c18.htm There are several DIY alternatives as well. Do a Google search for "DIY shallow water anchor pins" 1 Quote
sage Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I bought my 3/4" diameter fiberglass rods that are 10 feet long from McMaster Carr for $28.68 a piece. I made the rod holders and mounted on to front of boat and one on back. Ground a point on one end to easily push into lake bottom. 1 Quote
