I will have 5 of them by next month.

Truth be told, I don't pay more, but I would.

From handling in store several times I think you can get better rods at that price range, some $100 rods feel better IMO.

It's a quality blank but overall I just don't think it's a great value in its price range. One of my biggest issues with that rod is the cheap guides. In that range I feel like there are a ton of better options out there. St. Croix, Hammer, iRod, and Falcon all have better offerings at that price point IMO.

I have the MBR843 E6X as a 'do everything' rod paired with a Curado 200i and really like it. my next rod will be one of the E6X jig and worm rods for bottom baits.

I still can't find one locally.  I want to hold one before purchasing!  But you keep raving about it everywhere.  Might not be able to hold back.

They seem like decent blanks but I agree you can get a lot more for your money. Buying low end Loomis is like buying the "affordable" Mercedes. Your better of with a mid-priced Toyota. You'll get more bang for your buck from a high end Fenwick, Avid, or even a new St. Croix Mojo. And save money to boot.

Its all personal preference in the end.

Edited to add: I just looked around on the web. Do not pay full price! You can find them for St. Croix premier cost if you look. The premiers might still have better components though.

I have been a big G Loomis fan. I own almost a dozen GL2, Gl3, and IMX rods.  Heck my wife still loves her old 97% graphite smallie rod ( a two piece 7 foot light action rod) that was top of the line before I purchased my duplicate rod in IM6. Man that was something when they first brought out that line of graphite LOL.

Now I am no longer impressed. The rod blanks seem fine, it is the components and feel or the rod that quite frankly was passed by and left behind in the $150 to $300 price range. Are the NRX amazing absolutely but that is not the class or rods we are comparing.

I have a 7'0" MHF E6X. While a like the rod, I am not reaching for it as my first choice. The sensitivity did surprise me but something about the rod just seems off a little..can't really put my finger on it. That being said I cannot recommend the rod but I also cannot not recommend the rod if that makes any sense??

I've never fished one, but I definitely say it is a better rod than the previous GL2 (feeling, weight etc).  One rod I wish I could've spent the money elsewhere.  Like others have stated better rods in that price range.  I prefer the Zodias over the E6X, I always find myself picking those up.  There is however the MBR that Hulkster keeps raving about, I really want to feel one of those.  I think it would be a perfect all around bank/pond rod from reading his posts.  I'm looking for one of those.

lol I don't mean to rave about the E6X but I am a big fan of the all purpose taper of the MBR843 rods that Loomis has created. I have owned two different versions of this rod, an old school IMX (in the 6'6 length) and the newer E6X and like them both.

its not easy to find a great rod made in North America anymore, Loomis and St. Croix are a few of the manufacturers still doing it over here.

I own an Avid spinning rod and I will say its an amazing rod as well.

I'm sure you will be happy with whichever rod you choose

I have the 822S and really impressed so far

I used this rod the last couple of seasons and was also impressed. However, it'll be a back-up as I'm waiting on delivery for the new GLX 822DSR.

I own the 843 and like it. It's better than the gl2. I'd compare it more to my avids as far as quality and feel. If you like it. Use it. It carries the same warranty as the higher end loomis rods and the mag bass tapers are hard to beat.

tome ,and its only my opinion.until you get to the glx you are better off buying something besides loomis at that price point.i used to have a rack full of gl3s. I bought one st.croix avid and ended up selling the loomis and buying all avids or legend tournaments. I now have 7 legend tournaments and 2 avids. don't get me wrong loomis makes a great rod but I just feel I get more for my money with other rods until you get to about the$400 point. which im not willing to pay for a single rod.
