I heard so many great things about holey land and want to give it a try. I told my dad but he is lirry about it being out in the boonies and someone could come and steal the trailer or stuff in the truck. I've seen on the map a check station, what is this? Any thing happen out there? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Also any recommendations were to hed when out there?

Been out there about 8 times. 2 times on boat and 6 times on bank. I haven't had any issues with theft. I guess you never know, anything can happen at any ramp.

It is way out there, but haven't heard anything negative as opposed to US 27. I'm sure Big G will chime in at some point. He fishes Holey Lands fairly regularly.

As far as the fishing is concerned, I've had good days and bad ones out there. My understanding is that the fishing is better on days where the pumps are running. These pumps make a bit of current and I guess it wakes them fish up. There is a lot of water to be fished out there. Several canals along with the big square lake.

Cover is very different than other areas of the glades. Cover is a bit more sparse in the areas I have fished.

As far as security purposes, I dont think there is a difference out there as opposed to other ramps. I wouldn't leave anything valuable in the vehicle anyway. I've seen broken glass on the ground at the ramps on the alley and in south bay at lake O. I still fish them too. FWC seems to be out in the general area of holey land then most spots i fish in the glades. People target practice, hunt and go on swamp buggies through out the area. The ramp parking lot itself is used by others who nature walk, bird watch, motorcycles etc. So there is other activity besides just boaters.  Although in the scorching summer less people are out there lol. The check station is for hunters..

I have never heard of a problem out there.  Yes the check station is for hunting season and they check hunters that go out further west.  Lots of deer and pigs bagged out there.  You can also camp out there and many do.  FWL is often in the area, and I have been checked several times.  It is a relatively safe area, but you never know where the DB will decide to do their thing.  Its a lot safer then those ramps off 27.  Especially the ones close to 595.

All the canals produce at various times.  The east ramp runs back to 27, and is good when there is a gentle current flowing from the control stations on the levee.  The west canal runs all the way to the Miami River.  Current can be overpowering here, so looks for a slight current flow.  When its running like a mountain river, go somewhere else.  The north canal also known as the zig-zag canal, runs north and then west.  It will get skinny the further you run up that canal. It can be good when the others are flowing hard.  The big lakes can be good along the shore.  It drops off quickly to 30 -60 feet just yards from the shore.  Good when the cold fronts hit hard.  The deep water prevents sudden water changes.  You have probably 20 miles of canals running from the ramp area in three different directions.  Don't overlook where the canal meets the lake.  Sometimes the current comes from different directions, schooling fish love these areas.

If you go out during duck season, you will think it is the 4th of July.  It can be outstanding or a real challenge.  You need to spend some time exploring.

Been out there 6 time myself, all bank fishing however. If bank fishing just make sure you are looking around for no fishing signs. Specifically if you cross the pedestrian bridge out west where the larger parking lot / ramp is located. I didn't realize it at the time but the canals north of those ramps are protected sanctuarys of the everglades and are off limits. I found this out the hard way since I sincerely missed the signs which are difficult to see especially when you arent expecting to have to look for them.  As many others have said Ive seen FWC out there about 50 percent of the time ive been there. Including the time I ventured a bit far to the NW and they very politely tracked me down and walked me back to the bridge and showed me the signs along the way. Apart from feeling dumb/blind they were kind and educated me along the way.  Lesson learned.

Otherwise have had some success up and down the canal that runs east east as you turn into the entry road from 27. There is a bunch of spots accessible throughtout that stretch from the bank. Havent been out on a boat there yet but hope to get out there sometime in the near future.
