TriCityBassin' Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I am about to buy a reel for deep cranking (max ~12'). My choices are an Orra Winch, Tatula 100p and an Okuma Citrix. I ONLY own Shimano so these reels all feel like a risk to me. Tactical bassin raves about the Abu so I'm leaning. But I want to hear your experiences with these reels please. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 6, 2017 Super User Posted February 6, 2017 Out of those reels, I'd have to go with Shimano (sorry about that) 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 6, 2017 Super User Posted February 6, 2017 I'm a Shimano guy, too, but I also really like Daiwa. I'd have no problem looking at a Tatula. 2 Quote
TriCityBassin' Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 Trying to save some $$$$$$. Citica 200g5 on ebay is >100. Orra is 70 and the tatula is the same as shimano. Saw one for 90. Hmmm mmmm. Don't want to drop chedda on old tech. Tatula..... Quote

EvanT123 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Had the orra (first generation) very nice reel was actually my first baitcast reel. Have all shimanos but just got a tatula. One gripe; I'm not a big fan of the drag star. It's kind of big and cheap but at the same time I'm comparing it to reels that cost twice as much. I've read many of the reviews and watched a bunch of videos on the tatula. After getting to make some casts with mine I think for the dough it's going to be tough to beat and I can't wait to beat this thing up 2 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted February 6, 2017 Super User Posted February 6, 2017 Tatula all the way, and yes, I had one and still have a Type R. Got rid of the Tatula only to help a young man get started with baitcast reels. 1 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted February 6, 2017 Super User Posted February 6, 2017 I'd go to Japan and pre-order the Stile 150PG. I got the 101PG Stile last year and loved it for cranking lighter cranks. The new 150 size will be even better suited for deeper cranks because of the deeper spool. 1 Quote

I saw these, I never heard of them before. What would you compare them to within the Shimano level? (IE Citica, Casita..etc) I'm going to say go for the Cardiff, of course you may not like that because it's a round reel. I had one before and it was a good reel. I've been regretting selling off my Cardiff and Calcutta 200s. Quote

(IE Citica, Casita..etc) It's essentially an Aldebaran, but with a deeper spool for use with cranks and other applications that require longer casting, and it has a clicking drag. They also come stock with a 102mm handle, which is great for cranking applications. Here's a good look at my 101PG Stile: 2 Quote
CTBassin860 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 The Orra is a brute.I keep beating the crap out of it and at the end of the season i clean it and lube it up.Still smooth as ever going on its 4th season.Great deal for 99 bucks.Just bought the Tatula but the CT and have never fished the Okuma. I checked out some of these on ebay. I will give them a look. What store are you using in Japan? All my JDM has been second hand so far. Yeah that's what I have heard. Big bass California guys are cosigning the reel. That's why I put it in the list. Quote

TriCityBassin' Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 The more I ponder it. I am going to stay with Shimano. I will probably go JDM but not the Stile. that is ~280ish. A little too steep lol. I'll post pictures when I make my final decision. Quote
mwh33 Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Either a Tatula or citica. Not a big fan of Abu Garcia despite my wife liking her Orro Winch for cranking. Quote
