IndianaFinesse Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I don't care for bass, its not horrible but I would much rather eat crappie. If I catch a gut hooked bass (a rarity) I clean it and give it to a couple of elderly neighbors that love to eat fish. Sometimes I'll keep a few dinks for them anyways, the lake won't be damaged and may be helped by removing a few buck bass once in a while, and they love to eat bass. On a side note, a good way to make an agreement with the owner of a private pond or lake is to agree to give him some fish that you catch at his pond in return for access to it. 1 Quote

Every bite I felt guity and sad for the bass???. That was not a very enjoyable meal I ever had from the fish I caught. I do eat fish I caught but not all, mostly saltwater fish. I gave up after a few bites and mywife just kept laughing. She finished the bass herself after and told me that it taste pretty good. I'm glad that only pertains to bass. I would hate to feel bad about eating old betsy the cow or Arnold the pig. 1 Quote

No matter how good a nice, juicy steak sounds when you're starving to death. I don't feel bad at all about eating bass, I just prefer the taste of other fish. 1 Quote

Burtonxj Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Only freshwater fish I'll eat is Walleye.. If I hook a bass bad something else will get a meal out of it. Always bums me out a bit though..sitting in my kayak cursing..usually takes a couple of minutes to get back into it. Quote

Sure lol. It's not a secret. Rather simple really... She would take the filets and let them soak over night in water , with lemon juice , and salt.. The next day take them out and rinse them well... Mix a couple of eggs with some milk in one bowl.. and put your favorite crackers In a zip lock back. She would then crush them with a rolling pin . Choose whatever spice you like. She used cayenne.. but if you want hotter or milder adjust accordingly.... After rinsing the filets , dip them.in the egg and milk then roll them in the cracker and spice mix Cast iron skillet optional. 2 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted February 7, 2017 Super User Posted February 7, 2017 Good subject. I sometimes give away a bass to fishermen if I have one die or a person ask me politely and I feel they are a responsible angler. I don't eat bass myself anymore since I don't like the taste of bass, but they are a ok tasting fish if your hungry enough. With that said, I rather eat fresh caught seafood that I catch myself( hogfish, grouper, snapper, dolphin, cobia, tripletail, lobster, etc). 1 Quote
