trick worms Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Get a smaller vessel not requiring a trailer like a canoe/kayak/ bass raider 1 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted February 5, 2017 Super User Posted February 5, 2017 Welcome to the Forums Spencezilla, and have you thought about a float tube? If you don't have to worry about gators and snakes this could be an economical option. And if you like trick worm's suggestion, there are many good examples in "Show your ride..." RoLo mentioned golf course ponds (with permission), ponds or lakes with shore access which are great options until you're able to tow a boat. Good fishing, JB 2 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted February 5, 2017 Super User Posted February 5, 2017 Seriously Kayaks have come a log way. Lets get some details. What kind of water do you have that you can fish. Is there any small creeks, mid sized rivers, ponds, or bigger lakes? All of these offer different opportunities to fish and some require larger or smaller boats. Boats like Gheenoes, Kayaks, jon boats all have their place and offer different stability. Each can be moved around differently. Some need a trailer some can be roof topped. And of course some of the fishing opportunities offer fishing from shore. Another option is to see if you have a lake or reservoir that rents these type boats. Often you can use your own battery and trolling motor. I have two such lakes and often you see someone do just that. 1 Quote
kroberts9 Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 I guess the first question is what are you driving? even some small boats have a hard time fitting in the back of an suv and or are too wide for a roof. with that said a float tube isn't a bad idea unless your on the food chain. I'm thinking a fishing kayak would be best Google them to get an idea of what you like. I have seen some with electronics mounted to them and decent storage if you plan you day correctly Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 5, 2017 Super User Posted February 5, 2017 Welcome aboard! You could get by with an inexpensive kayak that can be strapped to the roof of your mother's vehicle. Quote
VolFan Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 First - How old are you? Second - Who is the "we" that's thinking about getting a boat? As in, who pays for it, and who is driving whose vehicle to tow it? From your other thread you make it sound like it's your money and your truck, but in this one you can't drive. Just trying to clarify where the issue is. Quote

He said he's in high school in the other thread, and in this thread he said that he had the dough to buy himself a bass boat, and he said he can't drive, his dad can't drive, and his mom doesn't want to drive it in this thread. But I'm not sure how we could help, sounds like he either has to convince his mom to drive it and find a place to store it, buy a smaller vessel, or simply walk to the nearest pond until he can drive himself and his shiny new bass boat to the lake. Super User slonezp Posted February 5, 2017 Super User Posted February 5, 2017 Based on this post and the other, I believe you should slow down and go about this logically. You seem a little anxious and you are setting yourself up to make a bad decision. 2 Quote
frosty Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Afford a bass boat??? In high school??? Jeez, I'm almost 40 and can't afford a bass boat... just when I was starting to feel good about myself if you can't drive, how long until you can? Just starting to drive is not the time to learn to haul a heavy trailer. Do you have any experience driving with a trailer? Can you afford all the expenses that come with a truck and boat? Annual license plates and registration for the boat, not to mention outrageous insurance costs for a young man in a new (?) truck, and insurance costs for the boat? 1 Quote

Jeez, I'm almost 40 and can't afford a bass boat... just when I was starting to feel good about myself Man that isnt anything. I drive by several high schools between jobs and see literally rows of $60,000.00 and up 4X4 trucks jacked up with $20k of aftermarket parts on them getting 7-10mpg. What part time high school job can foot that gas bill? That insurance payment on the truck? It's quite disgusting to know that many kids for the most part won't learn what earning something means. My brother lives 2 hrs away they have the same thing at their high schools. Then people wonder why kids have such out of ordinary thought process. Well lets see for starters they have no clue about $ and how it works. And just where are all the wealthy people that are buying these kids this stuff because I need new parents. Quote

Its not quite that bad around here, but most of the kids that drive are driving newer cars than my '99 Ford F-Rust50! 1 Quote
