SI Transducer Question

Curious.....if we place a SI/DI puck in the same location on the transom as our old sonar's puck, will side imaging still be able to be used? The main engine does NOT have a trim position. It's either all the way up.....or all the way down. I don't see how the SI capability can be used in that situation? I may just be missing something, but I thought that nothing can be on either side of the transducer for it to work. Thanks for any input.

I guess it would depend on where the bottom of your motor is in relation to the transom.  I leave mine trimmed all the way down and have no issues.

The SI pulses have to "see" left and right to function. Your motor should have an adjustable trim setting to allow for different transom angles. Just set that so you get the transducer side clearance.

That is what I do with my Merc 9.9

Wayne P. - This is an older (circa late 1980's) Mariner 20 hp 2 stroke engine on a 16' Tracker stick steer. It has only the two positions; full up or full down! That's what we have. The cavitation place of the motor (long shaft) is even with the bottom of the hull, so that seems normal and correct. Just do not want to spend the bucks on an SI if it is an impossible match. Thanks for your input.

If you don't have an adjustable trim stop as a bar or lever. You can still get full use of Humminbird Side Imaging with a dual SI transducer setup. SI is Side Imaging and a Humminbird trade mark.

Put a SI transducer on each side of the outboard and connect them to the display with the

AS SILR Y cable (for non-MEGA units). There is a MEGA SI version also.

You would get left side SI from the port transducer and right side SI/2D/Temp from the starboard transducer.

 

If you get a copy of Side Imaging, those companies may have a similar setup.

 

Depending on the Humminbird Side Imaging model, some come with the Compact SI transducer that is shorter than the HDSI and needs less clearance past the outboard and would not be an issue.
