Does anyone have any experience with Eye Surrender fishing glasses? I know that Costas are extremely popular, for good reason, but they're way out of my price range for now. Beleive me, I'd love to drop 200$ on a pair, but.... yeah.

The Eye Surrender is a decent price for my budget and I'm just curious if they're good and work well, or if I should keep searching.

Thanks guys!

Never heard of 'em. Costa is my choice, but

yeah, they are $$. Had to save up for a pair,

and now they're waiting to be sent in for lens

replacement... <_<

Those Costas, man, they sure are highly reccomended!

Bummer about your lens! What's their warranty service like?

Well, seeing this is the second time, the first was excellent!

Simple replacement for a broken temple arm.

I had kept them safe for years, then after I got that fixed

literally like 2 weeks later I sat on them in my kayak and

broke the lens. Grrr. This fix is a bit more expensive, but

their service is top notch, no doubt.

Awww man, RIGHT after it got fixed! That must have been frustrating. Good to hear they have decent service, especially since you've had them for years.

Maybe I'll just have to save up for some if it's backed really well. You should let me know how much the lens repair costs when you get it!

Tip. I bought mine off of ebay and *I think* I paid

$160 for them. Was waaaaay less than full retail, and

they were from a reputable seller, and official, not

knock off. Gotta beware those.

I want to say it will cost me $11.95 for the warranty

send-in and all that, then $80 for the lens.

The warranty send in isn't bad, but that lens has to hurt. Still better than a new pair for sure, but talkabout motivation to get OLD with keeping after those glasses.

Yeah... hurts. That's why I haven't sent it in for several

months still...

At least it's winter. Idk where you are in the country, but here in WI fishing glasses are pointless for a couple months still.

I had to send in my new Shimano Stradic FK recently. Put it off for longer than I should have because it was still awesome fishing and ended up missing out on the easy free replacement.

I've never heard of Eye Surrender sunglasses. But I've had a couple pairs of Strike King S11 polarized glasses and really liked them.  Light, confortable and most importantly pretty clear picture.  And they are even less expensive than the Eye Surrender glasses.

Have you had issues with durabilty? I've heard that the SK s11 glasses have a tendency to scratch and the layers peel apart on the edges.

I never had the layers peel apart but they did get scratched and the coating started rubbing off on the lenses. But this has always happened on every pair of plastic lens glasses I've ever owned.

Which is why I now own a pair of Costa 580G glasses. Sorry.....

@WI_Angler1989 I bought a pair of eye surrender glasses last year. I've never owned anything high end (nor can I really afford them) so I can't compare them but I am very happy with them. They are polarized and they do a great job at letting you see into the water. I'd see something like a snapping turtle and point it out to my dad and he'd say "where, I don't see it" and I'd forget the only reason I could see it was because I was wearing the sunglasses, so they do what you would expect polarized glasses to do. Not sure if it was intentional but they also seem to make colors more vibrant. I take them off and everything looks dull. I haven't had any issue with breakage or scratching, they don't feel like they're super durable if you abuse your gear, but I can't complain either yet.

Awesome! That's exactly what I hope for with polarized glasses. I'm like you too, high end isn't realistic right now, but the 60$ for eye surrenders could be doable if they work well.

I was honestly even a little hesitant about spending even that much given how much mine usually get crushed in a backpack or something but they come with a decent case, cleaning cloth, and they also have a $20 no questions asked replacement policy I believe.

Nice. That gives a lot of peace of mind. Any idea how long the 20$ guarantee is for? A year? Lifetime?

I'm a big fan of the Eye Surrenders, I have 3 pair. My first pair are gray lenses I got 8 years ago, yes they have been around for that long at least. My other 2 pairs are copper lenses and green lenses and the frames are awesome as is the optical quality. I had a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses, great glass for sure but they were heavy due to the glass lenses and after a few hours on they would hurt the bridge of my nose and my ears. The Costas I had 15 years ago were like the Maui Jim glasses, they were heavy but now they make a light weight plastic lens but I don't know what they are like. I can tell you that glass lenses offer the best optical quality but because of the weight they just aren't the most comfortable, especially in summer when sweating. That said, the Eye Surrenders are the best sunglasses I've tried under $100, and my buddy told me to get Strike King S11 polarized, well I tried his and I like my Eye Surrenders better, I have no scratches on any of my lenses, even the first pair I got and I use all 3 pairs, the only thing is now they changed the warranty, my first pair had a $10 lifetime replacement fee, the newer ones have a $20 replacement fee but at the rate they are holding up I doubt I'll have to use it.

Awesome! That sounds like the way I'm gonna go. A cheap lifetime replacement fee makes all temperature difference to me. Especially when considering how fragile they technically are.

What color frame would you suggest as a starting point? There are so many to fit the situation, but I can only get 1 to start.

I bought a pair 3 seasons ago based on smalljaw67 recommendation.

Pros:  great polarization. decent middle of the road price.  good warranty.

Cons:  the lenses have zero mirror finish. i just flat out look creepy with bug eyes while talking with people.  i have no idea what would possess them to not mirror the lenses.  they score 0 out of 10 for fashion.  it's fine on the water but you are not going to be discretely checking out pretty ladies in public with these lenses:eyebrows:  you want to be able to wear sunglasses on or off the water.  these are strictly for on the water.

during my 3rd season i was cleaning the lenses with my sweatshirt and the frames cracked at the nose.   i've done this a million times with glasses and never had a problem.  the plastic just doesn't hold up so be careful. They were replaced for $20. (plus the additional cost of shipping the broken ones).

All and all i will not be buying them again unless they come out with a mirror finish.  i'll be picking up some Strike King S11 this season b/c i can't pass on that price.  they seemed great in Wally world but they didn't have the right style.  stock will increase as spring approaches.

Yea I would second what ClackerBuzz said as well. I don't wear them when I'm not out on the water for the reasons he stated, but that's what I bought them for so not a huge deal for me.

Makes sense. I don't like wearing sunglasses to begin with so no loss for me. I just like the polarized aspect for fishing, obviously!

The Eye Surrender website has some polarized readers that I'm considering for $80. They have a cheaper version sunglasses/reader at a local BPS around $30, but these sound like better quality.

I know this is an old post but I hope you bought the Eye Surrenders. I have a pair of ESM and I have Costa Blackfins (Glass lens 250 bucks) and I prefer the ESM over the Costas. They are lighter, more comfortable and I don't mind if I lose them....... True story lol! They are fantastic sunglasses man. I hope you got them.
