JDNKC Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 I use Seagaur Senshi and I love it. Seagaur just came out with a new mono, rippin, and I am excited to see if it is as good or better. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 2, 2017 Super User Posted February 2, 2017 Dang, I don't know :.... oh yeah, Trilene Big Game 12 lb landed that 13.5 lber. Quote
Dan_the_fisher Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 I thought the only monofilament still made was maxima ultragreen? 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 2, 2017 Global Moderator Posted February 2, 2017 If you're wanting big spools, it's Big Game without question. Seaguar Senshi is very nice and I have some of the new Rippin Mono I'll be trying soon. 1 Quote
JustinJ Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 never had an issue with xl or stren original. Quote

Trilene XL for spinning reels and Big Game for baitcast. my 2 cents This ^. I try the "it" line every so often to make sure I'm not missing anything, and always go back to BG and XL. Quote
jimf Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Stren Original or XT, although I've never really used Big Game and I probably should give it a try. I've kind of settled in on fishing mono with everything, although I will probably have one reel rigged up with braid. I certainly recognize the advantages and disadvantages of other lines, and totally get why tournament fisherman use what they use. But I grew up on mono and catch fish on it, and I just like how it fishes better. That's pretty much the end of the story there for me with fishing line. 3 Quote

Super User Jeff H Posted February 2, 2017 Super User Posted February 2, 2017 XT has long been my favorite. Don't feel the need to change to something else. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted February 2, 2017 Super User Posted February 2, 2017 Berkley trilene big game monofilament line Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted February 3, 2017 Super User Posted February 3, 2017 As you can see, there are lots of favorites. I would prefer to use 2 different lines because I prefer a soft line on spinning reels and a little harder line (meaning tougher and more memory) on baitcast reels. For soft I like Sufix Elite and even have it on one of my favorite casting reels. XL and Super Natural are a couple more soft lines I use. I grew up using XL while a friend I got into fishing went with Stren. Many of my baitcasters have Siege on them. I especially like the Neon Tangerine as I can see it much easier. A couple years ago smalljaw67 suggested AN40. I bought a couple 3000 yd. spools of 8# and 12#. It is on several of my reels, and so far I have no complaints. I have the same weights in 1/4 lb. spools of Big Game, but I only use it on baitcast reels. There are plenty of good lines, but so little time to try them all. I'm hoping to move to Florida this year at which time I figure I will be getting out a lot more and will have the opportunity to test several lines currently sitting on the self. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 3, 2017 Super User Posted February 3, 2017 There are a lot of favorites .... LOL, Big Game has more votes than all the rest put together. 1 Quote

They should just make it in 14 and 17 lb, and rebrand it as Berkley Super Ultra Bass Perfect QuadPolymer Supreme, and charge LMB guys $15 for 300yds. Win/win.... Just got back from Florida, caught a bunch of tarpon, one almost 100 lbs with 20 BG and a 30 year old IM6 flipping stick Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 3, 2017 Super User Posted February 3, 2017 My favorite is Trilene xl blue fluorescent . I want to be able to see the line . 17 lb test XL is only .15 inches in diameter , strong and limp . Its my worming and jigging line . Big game I'm using for cranks , spinners , top waters and such . Hulkster Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 I love Big Game too, but it sucks on spinning reels. I tried it in 8 pound test on spinning gear (3000 size shimano), and the first outing it was great. then a week later I went back out and it had taken on spool memory and sucked. 1 Quote

My spinning reels get Stren original. I totally agree, Big Game is a wiry line, but that tends to be true for all the toughest lines like Trilene Big Game, Original Stren & Trilene XT. I can still picture the day I was bank-fishing with Original Stren on my spinning reel. I believe there was more Bill Dance Original Stren around my ankles than on my reel In a line shootout conducted several years back, Original Stren demonstrated higher abrasion-resistance than the expensive Japanese lines. 'IF' manageability ruled the roost, Trilene XL would be king. Roger 2 Quote
Hulkster Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 I have heard many glowing reviews about Sufix Elite, seems to be as manageable as XL but with more toughness. I am going to give it a try for both baitcasting and spinning gear. 2 Quote

Roger The only problem for me with XL is the abrassion resistance, it sux for the kind of places I fish .... all that wood and sharp edged rocks, and even if there's no wood there's always those sharp edged rocks. 1 Quote
tholmes Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Being a frugal (cheapskate) angler, I use Trilene Big Game on my baitcasters and Cabela's house brand on spinning reels. Tom 3 Quote
