The only reason I have narrowed it to these 2 series of rods is cause they seem to have the most versatile selection of rod lengths, powers, and actions. They seem to have what I'm looking for as far as that aspect for certain techniques. Short mod fast jerkbait/topwater rod, 7ft or so mod/mod fast crankbait rod,7ft or so mod fast/fast spinnerbait/buzzbait/chatterbait/ swim jig rod, 7ft or so MH/F for t rig and jigs, 7ft or so H/F for heavier jigs and frogs 4 minutes ago, webertime said: Then look at the 7' MLR Tatula. 12" handle Ok I will look into the Tatula rods. I've looked at them before but they confused me with the "regular" action what is there regular action Quote

Super User webertime Posted February 2, 2017 Super User Posted February 2, 2017 Think of Daiwa's "regular" as "Dobyns like". They are mod fast. Quote
Jason Penn Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 my opinion on mod action rods for moving baits, is the flex in the blanks hooks fish different than a fast action. if you can imagine the difference of pulling a hook into your hand and jerking it in, that is it. the hook basically pierces, making it almost impossible for the fish to throw the bait. you can accomplish something similar by stepping down a power in the rod also. a med power rod (depending on the company, abu you would need a med lt) vs a med hvy will have more flex. some folks don't really think that's a great idea, but i've had no problems with it for single hook baits. Turkey sandwich Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 I made a change last year after fishing spinnerbait on MHF or MHXF rods for years and picked up a 7'1 (or 7'3, I forget) Fenwick Aetos MH MF originally just for spinnerbaits. Afterer switching to braid from mono, I felt like I was missing fish due to there not being any stretch or flex to buffer aggressive strikes and I wanted to be able to stretch my casts a bit further. At first, I was surprised with the action - they're mod fast is closer to many company's Fast actions, but with just enough give. Since, it's also become my chatterbait rod, and I feel like I'll find half a dozen more uses for it by the end of this season. Quote
jimf Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I'm going to take advantage of BPS trade-in next week and get a new spinnerbait rod. I fish spinnerbaits in a variety of ways, but my #1 technique is kind of sniper mode where I make relatively short to shallow water structure. I put more premium on accuracy with spinnerbaits, and generally fish 3/8 oz. I'll go down to 1/4 more often than I'll go up to 1/2. Considering either the St. Croix Avid X or the Loomis E6X. Specifically: 1A. St. Croix Avid X. 6'6" M/F. 1B. St. Croix Avid X. 6'6" MH/F. 1C. St. Croix Avid X. 6'8" M/XF. 1D. St. Croix Avid X. 7' M/F. 2A. Loomix E6X. 6'6" M/F 2B. Loomis E6X. 7' MH/F. I own a couple of Avid's, no Avid X's and I have never owned a Loomis. The line rating and lure weight are listed quite a bit differently between Loomis and St. Croix, I guess I can assume that a St. Croix M is going to have a little more in the butt than a Loomis? I don't see the Avid line on the BPS website, but I'm almost sure my store has some. I'm going to go in and do some shopping today, if they have an Avid in a 6'6" M/F I'll probably go that route.
