Lake Chabot Bass Fishing

Hi everyone, 

Just started fishing at a new lake called Lake Chabot in the Oakland area and was wondering what you guys have had success on in that lake specifically or if you have any tips when fishing a new lake. It is a relatively large lake with deepish water in certain areas. Stocked with trout but has bass and catfish as well. Thanks for the help!

"Chabot is very popular with trout anglers and like most EBRPD (East Bay Regional Park District) lakes, it has a regular trout and catfish planting program. The best trout bite can be found from the fall through spring months, catfish during the summer months. Some impressively sized, Largemouth Bass have been caught here including the lake record, a 17 lbs. 10 oz. caught in 2002. Catfish, Crappie and Bluegill can provide good summertime fishing."

Just with this info, trout swimbaits all day. I would get a kayak and just go crazy. I have never been there but I will be in Fremont in a couple of months, I might just have to sneak out.

bma3, glad to hear you've discovered Lake Chabot! Most of the fishermen target trout, but big Florida strain largemouth and slab crappie are also in the lake. I know "eastbayanglers" have posted several videos fishing from shore for bass using different techniques. I'm not sure if you're able to rent a boat or have access to an electric trolling motor, but Alder Point, Half Moon Bay, and the area east of the dam can be really good. Good luck, JB

Thanks bma3, spell check issue which I corrected. By the way, the deepest part of Lake Chabot is along the buoy line and is no more than 60 feet. I used to have a portable fish finder a long time ago and I was surprised it wasn't deeper.
