Fishin' Fool Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Is it a gimmick or worth taking the time to get to learn? It looks like a modified version of the Neko rig. Quote
RoweBoatRVA Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Looks like the Neko rig meets the Texas rig. I believe there also is a salt water rig using the same name. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted January 31, 2017 Super User Posted January 31, 2017 I tried the 'chicken rig' once, but never again! I'm still finding loose chicken feathers all over the boat Roger 7 Quote
riverbasser Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Im sure it will catch a fish but I don't see any need coming up with a new name for every slight modification to hook placement. (Statement not intended at OP) I guess from now on when I don't rig a swimbait perfectly straight and I catch some fish I'll tell people I was using the "Alabama twister rig" 4 Quote
clh121787 Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Good old chicken ish rig. How ever were about 70 miles down the road from Hubbard and the rig is a little different here Quote

Reread your topic title then ask yourself this question again ? Good to know variations of popular presentations, but don't get too wrapped up in the little stuff... -T9 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 31, 2017 Super User Posted January 31, 2017 There's two things going on here. This rig solves the issue of wacky rigging any bait with an exposed hook point getting fouled with weeds. The rest of it is just the Neko rig variation on the wacky rig. So, if you fish the Neko rig, and are having issues with weeds fouling the hook, then try this. 1 Quote

You can do the same thing with a circle or an upsized wacky hook, without having to call it the "chicken rig". Using a circle hook to weedless wacky rig works well for fishing in weeds. 1 Quote

Yeah, its the name guys in the south use for a hi-lo or dropper loop rig, essentially a beefed up dropshot with 2 hooks about a foot apart each on a 2 to 4 inch tag. Used mostly with bait for smaller fish and to catch live bait, but I've caught just about everything on it. Its the go to for scup (porgies), and black sea bass. 1 Quote

All just basic on the water problem solving. 1 Quote
