She didn't use tobacco but was very unfortunate. I chewed many years ago and she asked me to quit when she got cancer...I did. Was not a pretty ride and I feel sorry for all those who have to go through it. There's other bad habits that aren't as toxic. so so sorry, but you are correct, hard thing to go thru. went thru it twice myself . hope people understand that we arnt condiming or bashing them, we only wish good health and prosperity for them. 1 Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted February 3, 2017 Super User Posted February 3, 2017 I fall on and off the dip wagon all the time....I give it up for a while, then start again, then stop, then start....It's a hard habit to kick. I know full well the risks, and to promote a "favorite" would be a disservice. One of these days I will kick it for good..............hopefully before it's too late. Just now, ww2farmer said: Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 4, 2017 Super User Posted February 4, 2017 I chewed redman, levi, and beechnut from 18-25. About a pouch per day.Didnt care for " the pinch between cheek and gum" Tried white mule and it kicked my butt.Went fishing with a friend and my spit cup bottom fell out in my lap.Looked like Id had a accidental bowel movement all day. I eventually quit cold turkey and had one last chew a few months later and that was it. You can quit anytime you want if you make up your mind to. As for preaching,if you care about someone youll preach to them ! Maybe we should start an overeating thread .Then someone could preach to me about that!!? 1 Quote
Mumbly Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I have never smoked or dipped but I have a friend who does for about 30 years now. I am normally not a judging person when it comes to stuff like that but I have seen his oral health severely decline in the last several years. I'd like to see him quit but he deems it impossible as he's tried several times with no luck at all. I saw that @tanderposted that it is at over $4 a can in the US. The govt up here has taxed the hell out of tobacco products in the last bunch of years and therefore a can of Skoal is $24 with tax. I thought that the cost would deter my friend but it didn't seem to phase him. How many of you would still pay that much for a can? Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 I smoked cigarettes from age 14 to 39 and chewed tobacco from age 14 to 46. As of 6 months ago I am completely tobacco free. I'm not judging anyone and not telling anyone to quit. I completely understand the addiction and also the pleasure that I got from both of them!!! To stay on topic, what I'm using now when fishing is Smokey Mountain Wintergreen Snuff. It's a tobacco-free snuff that tastes pretty good and it's great to feel something in my lip. Quote

How close is it to the real thing? It probably doesn't burn does it? That's what I think I'd miss the most if I quit. Quote

I don't know about other flavors, but they put cayenne powder in the wintergreen snuff to give it a burn. It doesn't burn as much as real tobacco (I miss that burn too) but it burns a little bit and if I use it a lot it even gives me a rough patch on my gums. For me it is a safer alternative to tobacco and I enjoy that most of all. Quote

FordsnFishin Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I typically like a couple of pinches of cope straight in while I smoke a Marlboro red and chew a pack of nicorette gum. But really, I like grizzly dark wintergreen. Chewed copenhagen wintergreen for years, but I feel like the qulaity has gone way down and now has that cheap fake wintergreen flavor. Quote
