Hi guys, my recently purchased Lew's Tournament MB seems so be making excessive noise on the retrieve. Even when im not pulling a heavy lure it makes the noise and I'm wondering if it is indeed gear noise or if it's the level wind, I'll attach a video I posted of the sound. What should I do?

Take it back and exchange. I have two and neither make any noise whatsoever.

Good question. If it just started or ?

Same here I have many Lew's reels and none make noise.

But as with any company making mass produced items a lemon could possibly have got out. If it's new and nothing you have accidentally created the issue just exchange it.

Yea I'm gonna call them, does Lew's exchange reels or just repair them under warranty?

Call them, they should take care of you.

If you have the receipt, the store you bought it from may be able to handle the exchange.

It's been there but has gotten progressively worse

Sure sounds like gear noise to me.

Seems like some people aren't bothered by gear noise in reels, but it drives me crazy!  I've owned very few reels that didn't develop a gear noise after a little use.

I have the same issue with two of my Speed Spools (posted a thread on here about it) and I have not fixed the problem. I tried contacting Lews to see if they would sell me a new set of gears but I have come up empty handed. For me it started after about a year of use and is really annoying in my opinion. Thing is, I have a Tournament Pro G by Lews as well and I have zero issues with gear noise. I asked Lews if they use different alloys for their higher end reels and they told me they're all the same gears in their casting reels. I find this hard to believe since there's clear visible differences in the gears (very shiny brass in Speed Spool and more of a matte finish gear in the Tournament Pro) and my Tournament has lasted longer without wear. I have flushed all spool bearings and made sure everything is cleaned and greased well and the noise still persists. I will definitely be following this post in hopes of a fix, even though I'm sure a gear swap would fix this as my two Speed Spools were smooth when I got them. Just sucks that they have become this way, in my experience at least. I have OCD when it comes to my fishing reels.

This is why I've switched primarily to daiwa casting reels. I liked shimano until they came out with the e series, every e series reel I owned had a gear noise after using them a few times. My old chronarchs and curado d's are still silent and super smooth.

I had that same noise and swapped in a new main gear and pinion and the noise went bye bye.

Yea for some reason I thought all of the Bb1's had the "delayed anti-reverse" for crankbaits so I looked at the mb instead.

Lews service is outstanding, why carry on about a noise they will service out? Just ship them the reel.

i sent some of my reels to them for a General service. Came back better than ever!

Contact Elizabeth, she'll give you a number to put on the shipping label.

Garret will over see the service.
