It's a toad Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I was wonder what would be a good rod for punching for under $130. The weight would be anywhere from 1-2oz's. I would also like it to be no bigger than 7'6" Quote

d-camarena Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 He beat me to it. You dont have to pay much for a decent punching rod. Ive used the lightning shock and it punched like a champ. Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 30, 2017 Super User Posted January 30, 2017 Under $130 Dobyns Fury FR806Flip-Punch $120 slightly over Irod IRG 7114P punch rod $150 Tom 2 Quote
Nor-Cal Basser Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I would consider bumping the budget up to $150 and getting the I Rod Bub's Punch rod. Best rod I've ever used for punching. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted January 30, 2017 Super User Posted January 30, 2017 The Irods are sweet for the money. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted January 30, 2017 Super User Posted January 30, 2017 Though not my favorite, a punching rod I use at that price point is the "St Croix Mojo – MBC70HF" (7’0” - Heavy - Fast ) Roger Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 30, 2017 Super User Posted January 30, 2017 A little out of your range, but I really like my Okuma Scott Martin TCS Casting Rod 7'11" Extra Hvy for $150. Quote

I am a fan of Lightning Rod Shocks, but this one is just not "where it's at" for this series. My favorite "cheap" punching rod is an Abu Garcia Vendetta 7'6" H...it's much lighter and easier to punch with all day, and has all the power in the world. Quote
Dan_the_fisher Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 1-2oz is pretty serious, I'd go with a rod designed for it like the Dobyns or irod said above or possibly a veritas 7'11" heavy 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted January 30, 2017 Super User Posted January 30, 2017 Irod IRG754F Freds Magic stick is the most universal rod I own and use for frogs, swimbaits, rats up to to 2 oz, big heavy crank baits and should be OK with jigs to 1 1/2 oz, little softer tip than a pure flip-punch rod. Tom Why does the Fred magic stick have a fast tip and the bobs punch rod have a moderate fast tip then Quote
d-camarena Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Its all preference, some people like extra fast. Some people prefer moderate. I like moderate fast myself which is why i like the lightning shock Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 31, 2017 Global Moderator Posted January 31, 2017 You can get the Okuma TCS rods for just over $100 . They're great rods and come in some heavy duty models that wI'll handle punching. Quote
mwh33 Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Okuma TCS rods can be found on Amazon for around 100 to 120 bucks. I actually mostly mostly dobyns, megabass, and g. Loomis, but i have the TCS mat daddy and it is a great rod. Dobyns Fury line has some good rods. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 31, 2017 Super User Posted January 31, 2017 (edited) Bought my grandson a All Star ASCC846CR for light punching (3/4-1 1/4 oz). This rod is listed as a Carolina Rig; 7' MH Fast, it handles most grasses very well. Edited January 31, 2017 by Catt Operator error Quote

junyer357 Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Hmm. Im trying to decide myself between the okuma mat daddy now and the new dobyns fury 805 for punching and flipping. Quote
kstephes033 Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Okuma Mat Daddy is legit. The handle takes a little getting used too but it is a beast, super lightweight, and very well balanced. Best rod i think that is out there for the money when you can go onto many sites and get it right around $100. Quote
RyneB Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Irod Genesis II Bubs punch rod. It is the best punching rod I have ever used. I have also punched with Kistlers, Fitzgeralds, Halos, and the Irod is my favorite. Quote
