win300mag1 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Hey everyone, I just bought a lews custom speed stick spinning rod in a 7' medium/x-fast. I'm going to be using my usual braid to Fluoro set up but I'm not sure the best pound test for the braid. I will be fishing an 8-12 lbs test Fluoro leader as this will mostly be my shakey head and senko setup. I figured 15-20 lbs braid would be ok but im not sure. Thanks for the input! Quote
bigturtle Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 15-20lb braid, but 30lb would be ok if you already have 30 and dont want to go buy 20. anything over 30 is too heavy. 1 Quote
win300mag1 Posted January 30, 2017 Author Posted January 30, 2017 Thanks. That's pretty much what I figured. This is actually a birthday gift for my son so I will probably go ahead and order some 16 lbs test sunline sx1 high viz braid for it. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 30, 2017 Super User Posted January 30, 2017 I use 10lb braid to 6-10lb fluoro on ML spinning rods, and 15lb braid to 8-12lb fluoro on M spinning rods. 20 is ok on spinning gear, I hate 30 on it. 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted January 30, 2017 Super User Posted January 30, 2017 On spinning gear, anything over 10lb is overkill. 1 Quote
bassguytom Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I use 10lb. Braid to 6 to 8.lb. fluoro. I have never needed more then that for finess presentations. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted January 30, 2017 Super User Posted January 30, 2017 i use 20 because I get it in bulk for my small casters like the alphas. I use a leader of 10 lb fluorocarbon and it works great for me. Quote
