I was looking for a rod for jigs, swim jigs, Texas rigs , etc. I really want a good quality rod but also don't want to break the bank. I would like it to be a 7' or 7' 1" medium heavy. I would also like the rod to be under $130. I was looking at the st. Croix majo bass, bass X and Powell inferno but can't make up my mind. I would appreciate it if you can help me out

Of the ones you mentioned, I fished jigs for many year with a 7' MH Mojo, it's great rod for "all purpose" jig and t-rig work.

Abu Veritas, 7' MH, is a great jig stick for $100. I like the Micro Guide series the best.

The SC Mojo vote here also. The Bucco is a heck of a rod, too.

At that level I've been satisfied with the BPS Carbonlite and Veritas.  I've fished a Mojo Bass before, I personally didn't like it but that was the last generation.  Don't have experience with the other sticks.

I'd go with the Mojo. They are very versatile rods, and the newest generation got a big upgrade when they upgraded the blank. Being that you're looking at a jig and texas rig rod, the Mojo is going to give you more sensitivity over the Bass X due to the upgraded blank.

Tom-  any reason you pick the 704C instead of the 733C?  I am about to get another jig rod and have a 733 & 734, just curious if you had compared......

I prefer a 4 power rod for my jig fishing. I haven't fished the Fury series, just touch and feel so far.

The length is a personal preference between a 7 ft and the 7'3 rods. For jigs under 5/8  ounce I personally love my Powell MAX 683CEF. I bet my new Dobyns Champion 705 is going to handle big football jigs well though. I can not wait to find out soon.  For me anything over 7 foot does not work since it won't fit in my rod locker.

Get an Abu Garcia Veritas, which is on sale right now for $80 at TW and DSG, and use the rest of the money to buy gear.

You could also go with a Dobyns Fury 734C, which is labeled as Heavy, but isn't going to be stiff like most heavy rods. They look really sweet if you like matt black with green trim.

Also, if you're taller like I am, go with a rod over 7', you'll thank me later.  If you're average/shorter person, you might be fine with a 7'.

Haven't fished a Mojo, so no comment there.

What does height have to do with it?  I'm 5-7, and have rods from 6' to 8'.  The length has more to do with where and how your tossing the jigs.  7 to 7-4 is a general purpose length, and covers most casting situations and techniques.  Shorter is nice for dealing with wood and dock type cover, with fish on a short leash.  Longer is always nicer for pitching, though you should be able to pitch with any length.

We'll, for me and my preferences, I prefer longer rods than other people in like situations. I associated it with height; I guess it could just be preference, so to each his own. Also, I fully understand your point about varying rod heights to a particular situation. I recently got a 6'6" rod for kayak jig fishing. We'll see how that goes.

If you stand, everything will be the same.  If you're sitting, the shorter rear grip might make it easier.  I agree on the preference thing, and I have long arms, so that might be more of a difference maker.  The only time I find being shorter is an issue with longer rods, is with topwater and jerk baits.  I use a 6-2 with a short rear grip for this.  It's about the same as a 6-6 rod, in front of the reel seat.

I've got the "jigs and baits" mojo bass rod (7'1" MH Fast) and I like it. Looking to fish it more this season

Spend or save up a little more and try to find a used Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch, usually can be had for around $200 used. This is an unbelievable jig rod, works awesome for texas rigs as well, and just to top it off is an amazing frog rod.
