riverbasser Posted February 18, 2018 Author Posted February 18, 2018 I guess I missed this weeks episode, DVR didn't record for some reason. I just assumed they were taking a week off after the selects. Maybe I can catch a rerun of it Quote

It's on right now. 1 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 This weeks episode was a good'un. I like AMart and he was having a lot of fun. Quote
Super User Gundog Posted February 18, 2018 Super User Posted February 18, 2018 This weeks episode was a rerun of one of the shows from Alpena Michigan. At least it was from my cable company. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 They were up in Michigan again but my cable box said it was "NEW". They also had their thirty minute extra add-on show and my cable box guide said it was new. I'm pretty sure its new. Keith Poche did good. I figured he would head to the docks to fish but nope, he stayed deep too. It was odd seeing him drop-shotting but he stuck to it and got thru. Poche and Randy Howell are becoming my favorites in MLF. Felt bad for Gary Klein, poor guy. He should have went shallow. The color commentator/expert guy said there might be big bass in the shallow but no one went after them. Quote
riverbasser Posted February 19, 2018 Author Posted February 19, 2018 Yea I caught the last half when they played it again. It wasn't a rerun, they were on a different Michigan lake from last year. I had to set it to record again maybe because the name changed from selects. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 19, 2018 Super User Posted February 19, 2018 I missed it as well. Hoping to record the re-run next Fri / Sat. Can't understand why I didn't get the initial show though . . . . A-Jay Quote

I've caught it a few times before it was too late. Quote

drscholl14 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 A-Mart was killing me. I love that guy. Using two rods to land fish at the same time, giving Ehrler crap while A-Mart was catching fish right in front of him. That guy can fish and he has so much fun doing it. 1 Quote

Drew03cmc Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Man, I love the MLF format. I can't stand Howell. His Jesus schtick is too much. Favorites are probably Wheeler, Scanlon and Montgomery. 2 Quote

RyneB Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 what are those things fastened to the front of the power poles? I didn't notice them in the last episode. It seems like this episode they were focused on them. Quote

hoosierbass07 Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Wow, another solid episode! My thoughts - A solid rating of A for the episode. Only thing keeping it from A+ is not many Large Mouth Bass. This episode was packed with the big guys! Oh yeah! With so many big names you know some are going home. Hate seeing them miss the cut but, that's competition! Shaw Grigsby finally, FINALLY turns it on! I've been pulling for him the last few years and it seems he always goes out the first round. Glad to see him move on. What was with Jacob Wheeler making casts with his baitcaster so hard? Man, he looked like he was trying to hit a ball out of a ball park when he made his casts. And, Jacob Wheeler really turns it on! Wow! He found the big ones and kept finding them and catching them. That guy is on fire. It looks like Ish would have gone thru but he ran out of time in the last few seconds. Looked like he had fish on his line right when time ran out. He was royally ticked and I don't blame him. lol. How about Hackney ditching the Small Mouth and going for Large Mouth and actually catching them. Hate to see him eliminated too. Another great episode from MLF. Oh, I forgot about Iaconeli. He was particularly crazy/goofy/odd/annoying. I do like Iaconeli and his enthusiasm, but I have to admit it was a little too much in this episode. Quote

Ike is an extremely talented fisherman who loves to teach, but I find myself muttering "shutup already" when he goes through his antics. Interesting comparison between he & Wheeler, a pro almost half his age. Ike hooks up with a large fish, starts screaming and declares it is well over 5 lbs. It weighs in at 4 -3. He hooks up again, starts screaming, says this one is even bigger. It weighs in at 3 something. Meanwhile, Wheeler lands the biggest fish of the tournament and excitedly says it should top 5lbs. It weighs in at almost 6. He then hooks up with another one and calmly claims it is a little smaller than the previous one. It weighs in at 4 plus. He later hooks a smallmouth and exclaims "good fish, not a giant, but it should be 3 lbs". Weighs in at just over 3 lbs. I guess it is just the difference in their temperaments, but Wheeler comes off as the experienced pro. Interesting enough, Wheeler seems like he enjoys teaching as well, he will give you the nitty gritty of what he did & why. 3 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I wonder whether they'll bring in a rule to stop people (Ike) from running all the way to the back deck every time they set the hook. Surely it's only a matter of time before they knock a cameraman and camera in the water, which would be expensive. It looks stupid too, but that's secondary. Anyone know what happened to the cameraman who was hit in the eye by a punch weight a year or two back? I see they all have to wear Wiley X sunglasses now as a measure of protection. Hope he made a good recovery as it sounded a horrific incident. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 Just got a chance to get caught up with this last show. It's really interesting watching the anglers fish that area. I've introduced myself to a few from there. As I was watching, knowing when they were there, until they go off the bank / docks, I didn't expect them to do much. As is often the case up here for smallmouth, once the sun burst through, the lake gave up what it's know for - Big Brown Bass. Seemed important for the anglers to look deep(er). Once a few guys caught a couple and gained confidence, they started keying in on "the better spots" (which are routinely not very big, relatively speaking). Hard to beat a drop shot in that situation, and one can go a while 'looking', especially if one doesn't really know what to look for. Wheeler was impressive and on the right ones. He manage to locate a deal in one morning that took me pretty much half a season to find. A-Jay 3 Quote

RichF Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Wheeler can be a bit annoying sometimes. He's definitely good but I think he's also gotten pretty lucky at a few of these places. A lot of the guys find "spots" that are holding multiple fish. He just happened to find the one holding really big ones. I'm sure what he saw on his graphs looked exactly like what Timmy, Shaw, and Brent saw. It just happened to hold a better class of fish. I just don't bite when these guys say they knew exactly what to look for to find the biggest fish and win a round. He didn't have a single fish until the last round...then found a group of 4 to 5 pounders. It's hard not to think there was a little luck at play. Oh and another thing...why is it that every time these MFL guys catch smallmouth that spit up crawfish, they never change to a tube?! At least pretend you're "matching the hatch" like you so often like to say! Still the best fishing show on TV though haha. Quote
