I know many on here enjoy watching MLF like I do so mind as well have a topic for it.

First up, you gotta give Ott Defoe credit today. Not only did he make a gutsy move but caught a 4 pounder. I was rooting for him in the end but never would of guessed he would catch one like that in that skinny little creek. Congrats to him

Yeah, Otts definitely one of the best. But that young guy tore em up on the whopper plopper. I always root for Watson but his mouth is bigger than his fish.

Yea ive noticed the whopper gets thrown a lot in MLF recently. Of course Ott and mark rose had plenty of bites on buzzbaits too so maybe that was just the pattern of the day

I was shocked that some of the competitors were still throwing topwater baits 6 hours into the tournament. And Ott Defoe's trip wading through skinny water was a big gamble. Like he said, he couldn't change his mind after that. It was all or nothing.

I had never seen the frog trailer on the buzz bait. I'm going to try that.

Agreed. I've been in a lot of creeks like that and struck out completely, it looked like in the end it had some decent water flow coming out of it so maybe that was the difference

I liked all of the anglers in yesterdays field so I couldn't just root for just one guy. However, there was a part of me that wanted to see Watson light em' up "jacking a spoon". this technique intrigues me ever since he demolished the field last year using that spoon.

Looked like a zoom horny toad that he used. I've also seen this done before in a fishing video, but have never tried it.

I thought at first he had messed up when he went back in that creek towards the end of the third period. But he pulled it off. Shows that he was smart too when he changed baits when the bite dried up with the topwater.

4# 11 oz.If he didn't catch that fish and Zack doesn't get that landing violation could have been another story.Pulling his boat through that sandbar TWICE took cohones.Paid off too.Back and forth for a period and a half.

Either SK or Booyah make a buzz toad

You can do it with any buzzbait, but i prefer the ones that don't have the skirt tied on with wire cause i prefer to takentye skirt off when i'm using a toad on it. It works when the bass want something different, plus the buzzbait can be retrieved slower with the toad as a trailer.

Anyone else tired of lake of the Ozarks? They had about 8 episodes in a row there

That should have wrapped up the Select Series from LOTZ. I believe next week they start showing Cup stuff from Grand Rapids, MN according to the TV schedule.

Not at all. It's a huge lake that I've fished several times. There's a good portion of the lake they haven't even fished. Very interesting how certain portions of the lake have produced large fish and others haven't.

Is that what Chris Lane was throwing? I've never seen one, but man he was smokin' them with whatever it was!

Yep and that's also what almost won the last episode until Ott made his move.

Can't believe Chris Lane threw a Whopper Plopper the whole day to win the show and I can't catch a single fish on that thing. :wall3:

Off topic, but has anyone on MLF tryed using Midwest finesse tactics in the tournaments?  Seems like 40+ bass would win the thing, and a lot of the skilled Midwest finesse guys can do that easily.

I know one thing. Ole Fletcher Shryock wins the contest for ugliest shoes. ?

Brent Chapman did at Dale Hollow, but he's admittedly not a strong finesse fisherman and has no confidence in the rig. I've thrown it at LOZ every time I've fished the main lake and it always produces tons of fish, just not a good option for a normal 5 bass tournament, but I think it would be hard to keep up with someone fishing it in the MLF format. It catches a lot of spots and largemouth about like this one whenever I've fished it there. This was in the Glaize arm not far from the Highway 54 bridge.

I've tried convincing Wheeler to throw it, and he's played with it some, but it's just not his style or tempo. I think if I could just whip his arse with it one time around here he'd see the light

Sounds like a plan for when you guys meet up this year.  That would make an interesting ultimate match fishing competition with the MLF format, Jacob Wheeler versus Brian.

So Wheeler is the one you took under your wing? I saw one of your posts a week ago or so about a touring pro you've worked with along the way. I figured it was him since you're both from Indiana but didn't want to ask. I think he's going to do big things in the next few years on the Elites.

Side note still reading through what you sent me....pretty informative. Thanks!
