Hi guys, been outta the game for a while.  Want a new baitcaster.  I'd like to stick with daiwa since it's what I'm used too.  And stay under 200.  Viento was my last good reel. I still love the way it casts, especially with lighter stuff.  It had magforce and a free floating spool.  How would that compare to a tatula ct that doesn't have a free floating spool but does have magforce z?  Thanks!

Sorry I am not familiar with that reel,   I can say that all 4 of my Tatula Type Rs and my 2 tatula CTs are extremely smooth long casting reels.  Some of the guys that get super crazy with reel mods are taking these reels apart, replacing several bearings with HedgeHog ZR bearings, removing the handles and replacing the one bearing and one bushing with a pair of better ones.  They also replace a bushing or two inside the reel with bearings ( I believe it was on the shaft for the TWS line guide).  Again they are using high end bearings from suppliers like Hedge Hog.  I believe several of them have gone to super lite shallow spools even. Doing some of these mods they have reported results similar to some of the really high end Diawa and Shimano reels.  Believe me, these guys are ANAL ANAL ANAL about their reels. I have seen them do upgrades to reels such as the Diawa SV series and Steez SV reels as well as a Aldebaran and Metanium reels. Most people buying these reels will find it will meet their needs very well just plain stock.   I say all that because if you purchase one and you are not totally thrilled with it, you could contact a few guys I know on another board and they can point you in the direction of these mods. So you could take a great reel and make it into something much greater. Of course you know if they are that anal about how it works you can be certain they add all sorts of bling as well. These mods include color changes to some of the accent pieces, spools, handles and knobs, spool tension knobs, drag stars, and even thumb bars. Man I bet I left out some pieces. LOL

I am not sure they do not spend as much money on add ons and mods as the reel cost to begin with.

For the money the Tatula CT ( and that goes for the entire Tatula family of reels) reels offers a very good smooth reel built in an aluminum frame with a robust drag system and the T wing helps with casting distance as well. They are highly modifiable to tailor it to your personal preference.  I recommend you give one a try

I'm one who much prefers the free floating design Daiwa carried for many years in all it's available models and still does in some higher end models.   I lament it's absence in the Tatula series and had my concerns initially but those concerns have proven, at this point, invalid.  I like the Tatula's very much!  I've got 3 original Tatula's and 2 CT's now and I've given 2 of those original Tat's a good beating over the last couple years and they've withstood it all in typical Daiwa fashion.  One of the things I like best about these reels is I've put not a penny into them in mods/upgrades which is not my typical M.O.  I like to modify my reels, Tatula's don't need it!  These are kick ass performers in stock condition that get even better over time.  Truly an excellent value from Daiwa in my opinion!

Looking forward to the new Tat SV that's coming out soon.  Definitely going to grab one of those for my collection!

How light?  TT's review of the original Tatula and Tatula Type R included seeing how light a weight they would cast.  Both were capable of 1/8 oz. on the right rod.  I assume the CT models will also handle the same weight.  Personally I need a reel designed for that weight (and under) in order to cast 1/8 oz. on a casting rod.  Long time users seem to have no problem with that weight on many standard reels......which I feel the Tatulas are.  You should be fine with anything from 1/4 oz. (total weight) up.  Excellent value reels.

Now if you are looking to throw the really light stuff with a casting rod, then take a look at used Pixys.  Prices have come way down on them.  A used reel that would have cost you in the neighborhood of $200-$250 a few years ago can now be had for around $150.  Bad for the seller....good for us.  :D

I know I often speak of these reels in glowing terms but if you are trying to throw stuff that light I never do that so I do not want to mislead you. The reels I hear people using for super light bait usually cost double the price of a Tatula.  The lightest I throw using my baitcasters is a Reaction Innovation little dipper and a hook. That is probably a 3/16 or 1/4 total weight. I also throw a Skinny dipper and light belly weighted hook.Anything like a light grub, Ned rig drop shot I do all on my spinning rig.

The Tatula will cast anything the Viento can and probably better.  The rod and line used have to factor into this too, but I can promise the Tatula will cast as well and likely better than a Viento on any given rod, all things being equal.  Mine do as well as my modified Fuego's and the Viento was no better than a stock Fuego at best.

Nice information, Jeff.  Now I need to remember to try both back-to-back once the weather warms up.  Love my Fuegos.  Doesn't hurt that they are a very nice looking reel.  :thumbsup_blue:  Probably why I like them better than a Sol.

Yep, me too.  My hands much prefer the TD-Z/Fuego frame vs the Alphas/Sol.

Be the first on the block to own the new tat sv tws.  I think they are going to be under $200, and look very nice.  I think they will be available around the classic.

That's been my only hesitation kp!  That tatula SV should be really nice.  Tatula, SV, and TWS, doesn't seem like you can go wrong there!  It will probably just depend on how bad of a fishing itch I get between now and when the SV comes out.  I have other setups to get by, just kinda wanting something new.
