checked out wally world here in southern Indiana they did not carry either of these rods. but person behind counter said they would be putting in new stock in a couple of weeks,  and will be having sale on older stock.

Ahhh.........yes they (the Shocks) are quite a bit different in action then the standard/original Lightning Rod, and more in line with what you based your opinion on. Don't take my post as "calling you out", as that was not the intent, I was just confused as to what you were talking about as my exp with them was about 180 degrees different.

Look at the Daiwa Aird X at Academy. On clearance for $39 right now.  The M actions feel good for cranks.  I couldn't pass up the deal.  The Shock feels like a heavy broomstick compared to it.
