DMW Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Hey guys. I recently started bass fishing probably about 6 months ago, mainly because I'm in college and don't have much to do besides study and hangout with friends. This place has answered so many questions for me, and will hopefully continue to do so. Since I'm relatively new to the scene, I have a lot . I'm from Gloucester VA, which is near Williamsburg and Newport News. The only places I have fished thus far are the Pamunkey river, Shenandoah river, and chick lake. Anyways, nice to meet you guys! Tight lines! Quote

Cranks4fun Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Welcome! I lived in SE Virginia growing up and again as an adult. I was a pastor in Carrollton for 10 years (Just outside of Smithfield). I also taught school in Va. Beach for 7 years. I went to school as a kid in Suffolk and Chesapeake. Lots of great fishing there. My parents and my oldest son are still living in "Tidewater". There are many awesome fishing opportunities there (Chesapeake Bay, James River, The 6 Suffolk Lakes**, Newport News Reservoir, North Landing River, Blackwater River, etc.). I live in SW Missouri now but I go back to VA once a year to see the family. I sure miss fishing some great waters there, but I guess there are great waters in every state...if you really want to fish! Quote

Super User Darren. Posted January 27, 2017 Super User Posted January 27, 2017 Welcome aboard! Hit up Beaver Dam Reservoir up there. You'll thank me later http://www.gloucesterva.info/ParksandRecreation/Parks/BeaverdamPark/Fishing/tabid/361/Default.aspx Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted January 27, 2017 Super User Posted January 27, 2017 I put my rookie bass fishing time on Waller Mill, which isn't too far, either. Good water and the park used to run a pretty good boat rental outfit. Quote
DMW Posted January 27, 2017 Author Posted January 27, 2017 Darren, I fish at beaverdamn regularly (3 minutes away from me) and honestly I've never had much luck! But the website says the action is going well right now, so I'll have to check it out while back, thanks! Never heard of Waller Mill, will check that out also Cho! Quote

Super User Sam Posted February 1, 2017 Super User Posted February 1, 2017 DMW, welcome to the Forum. Great having you with us. Gloucester is a large geographical area and I don't know if you have a kayak or a boat to use or if you are bank fisherman. Have you fished Beaverdam Reservoir? You can hit it from Route 17 or go via the road from the courthouse. I have fished off he docks of both locations and maybe one day will fish the waters in a boat. Your first goal is to get that degree so you can have a successful career and buy lots and lots of bass fishing stuff to make the Bait Monkey happy. Be sure to post some pics of what you catch. Quote
