Central IL here.  I'm probably more of a hunter than a fisherman, but I enjoy both just as much.  Back when I had a lot of free time, I used to hunt quite a bit.  I used to hunt deer, rabbit, squirrel, pheasant, coyote, and dove every year.  These days, its mostly just deer and coyote.  I keep telling myself that, one of these days, I'll get to dust off one of my .22's to chase some squirrels again, but that never seems to happen.

Woods time is a great place to get your mind at ease. Here in PA I deer and turkey hunt along with ducks, doves and squirrels. I have a few people who will take all the squirrels I can get. Prefer to shoot squirrels with a .22, would love to take a trip to a dove haven. Someday I hope.

I hunt north central PA for deer, small game, and varmints.  I stick to family owned property that has mixed areas of cover that the deer and small game like to bed down in.  But there are also valleys that open up possibilities for 500+ yard shots which is great for the varmints.  I use a mix of 7mm08, .44 Magnum revolver, .22LR, or 12 gauge shotgun depending on the situation.

Been hunting Blackbears since '73. Been close, very close like 10' away in the tall grass. Tracked a sow with one cub but let her go. There was a mountainlion following the cub/sow too. Harvested one sow leaving the apple orchard by herself. I like hunting one on one, no baits just us against nature. I find a good area to sit, light my $5 cigar and wait.

Brand new to hunting, and waiting to get out there! Just got my first 12 gauge, and looking to hunt Turkey and Geese to start. I live in RI, so there are few public hunting grounds which means heavy traffic, but hoping to come across a friend who might have some acres to hunt private. Looking maybe for squirrels too. I have a buddy who ties flies and would buy the tails from me.

Whitetail deer with a crossbow and that's about it. Ride around work somedays and lay the smack down on some squirrels but that's more nuisance management than hunting.

Waterfowl. Just got into last year and I love it. Nothing like shooting a goose in the face.

I used to like grouse, but the numbers have dwindled around me.

Rabbits are fun from time to time.

Deer, for food only. I don't care about the antlers. I will kill a doe just as fast as a buck. I just want to eat it.

This is the whole reason I've never gotten into turkey hunting. Looks fun, but not fun enough to keep me off the water in April.

I hunted turkeys 1 time, called for an hour, shot one, cleaned it, went fishing.

You guys don't know what you're missing! There's nothing better then a couple Boss Gobblers 10-15 yrds away from you in full strut drumming and gobbling their heads off!

I get it though, Blue you're in Kansas and Croak I believe you're in S Indiana so April is prime time. Here in Michigan there's a good chance the lakes are still frozen.

Very true

When I lived in Iowa, I was pretty serious about spring turkey. Water was usually still cold or Frozen.

Now that I live in Kansas, April bass fishing Comes first.

Did you have the Merriams turkey where you were in Iowa? Those birds are pretty cool with the white tips. They had them out in Nebraska where I used to deer hunt. I never made it out to hunt them. On my bucket list though.

In eastern Iowa where I hunted it was the Eastern turkey. All corn fed. they grew big. like the deer.

Most farmers hated them, so it was usually fairly easy to get permission to hunt in the spring.

Kansas is a lot harder to find land. Usually stuck hunting public land.

they might have had Merriams in western Iowa.
