A baitcast reel of your choice

A rod that's comfortable with at least a medium strength (most prefer MH or H)

Line of your choice (most like Flourocarbon) I prefer braid

Couple jigs from a brand you like and trust (Siebert has been a longtime sponsor)

Trailer of your choice (most like Ragetail)

confidance and patience.

It is not about the reel or rod it is about the patience and willing ability to learn and try it out. Plus read the Pinned jig articles.

This sums it up and I too prefer braid with FC leader

thank you so much I mostly need patience.

Which is why I have jigs that have never been wet.  :(

Jigs do not always have to be fished jigs like a snail. Sometimes yes, but like all baits it's about how the fish want it. I've had days where the jig would barely hit bottom before it was time to set the hook. Many many variables obviously but I would not throw one just on the premise that it's a boring super slow way to fish.

Id suggest a bait casting reel of your choice. I prefer a aluminum frame with a 6 or higher gearing.

The rod I like a Medium Heavy Fast or Heavy Fast depending on where (how deep into the cover) I'm fishing.

I use Copoly 20lb or Mono 17lb lately. Both are cost effective and I have not had any issues even in some heavy cover.

today and thanks

I meant that obsequiously, I've switched so many times I'm getting punch-drunk

> It began with PowerPro                (Dumped it after a bad batch - This was back in the day of Bantam1)

> Eventually Berkley Trilene            (A superb braided line, and still one of my favorites)

> Eventually Seaguar Smackdown    (Due to its thin diameter, but under heavy use the strands separated)

> Today: Sufix 832                    (I'm content with every aspect of Sufix 832)

A good starter jig set up would be a 7', MH casting rod, a decent reel with a 7:1 gear ratio, and 15 to 17 pound fluorocarbon to start with. I like the Veritas Series a LOT! As for a reel, the BPS Pro Qualifier is great for $100 as is the Lew's Speed Spool. The Shimano Casitas is a step up, and if you can afford it, the Curado is amazing.

Ummmm,.... jigs as in a jig and pig?, or a jig as in a jighead and plastic?,...after reading the responses im guessing a jig and pig.

I use several different set-ups. All of them follow the criteria of "single hook? heavier rod". I use 2 flipping sticks, a heavy action 7' graphite, a 9'8" med heavy graphite, a med heavy 6' braid specific rod and a 5' 10" heavy action spinning rod, the casting rods all have quality shimano reels "curado's and citica's" and the spinning don's a symetre 4000. All have 12 pound green mono, and have specific duties.

6 rods? for one lure? Yeah, I like using a jig and pig, and utilize them in all aspects available, and one unusual technique as well. When out fishing alone, I have the room on the boat for over a dozen "ready" rods, and do so, when deemed necessary. (usually 4 or 5 jig rods)

It seems like I fish a jig on just about every one of my baitcasting rods but I'd have to say that my favorite is a 7'6 H Kistler Helium, 7.3:1 Zillion TWS, and 20 lb Flouro.  This is my go to for 3/4 oz jigs around sparse veg, wood, and rock.  If I'm in heavy grass, I'm using my 7'11 H St. Croix Legend Xtreme, 7.2:1 Curado I , and 60lb braid (same size jig or heavier).  I also have MH rods, 7' to 7'3, that I have both 16 or 17lb flouro and 40lb braid on.  I'll use those for 3/8 to 1/2 oz'ers.
