Super User geo g Posted December 16, 2019 Super User Posted December 16, 2019 Just lost dad WW2 war vet Friday 13th. Dad went in the service at 16 right after Pearl, and served as a Navy Seabee all over the Pacific front. He was a proud Seabee and wore his Seabee hat and shirt weekly right up to the end. God bless you Dad, you will be missed. 6 Quote

God bless you Dad, you will be missed. I'm sorry for your loss. My grandfather was a Seabee when he was on Saipan and Tinian (he was a Marine before that). He would have been older than your father, but I wonder if their paths would have ever crossed. Those were tough men back then. Some of the pictures of my grandfather on Guadalcanal make me thankful that we had enough food and ammo at all times when I served. God bless your father. 1 Quote

Guitarfish Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 I missed the draft by literally a few month's. I knew I was going to Nam for sure. My birth date came up in the lottery #8. I was really worried. Then they stopped the draft. So my heartfelt thanks to those that did get drafted, or volunteered. You did your share and mine too. If anyone tells me they're a Viet Nam vet, they automatically have a free ride with me. Least I can do. Thanks to all vets period. Want to see what our young are fighting now?
