Just throwing this out there I picked up (3) Berkley Shock-Rods, 6'6", 1pc. medium power, fast action, spinning rods for $9.00 each and (1) Abu Garcia Vengeance 1pc. 6'6" MH, spinning rod for $13.00 at the Wally World on way home from work today. No damage or blemishes with hang tags. Guy at counter had no explination as to why. He said they are what they are. The 6' and 7' mediums were regular price of $43.00/$49.00 but I tried. I'll let the guys at work buy them in the morning. They'll be gone buy first break. Maybe check out your Local Wally if these interest you. I'm not a big fan of either but the guys at work will scarf them up.

I went in because a couple of weeks ago I had seen a price rollback on the Rapala JSR-5 jointed shad raps for $4.96 ea. I don't think I'll ever see them lower than that. Pulled off a few decent patterns I wanted.

I realize Wally does some crazy stuff on clearance but those rods at those prices are pretty cheap.

I love these rods. Wasn't long ago I bought 2 MH from Walmart for 34.99. They were listed as that at regular price for some reason no sale. Bass pro sells em for $50. Either way can't beat that and $9 is a steal

Good score on those Lightning Rod Shocks...............they are my favorite "cheap rod". I have a bunch of them and use them regularly right alongside my custom built and more expensive rods.

That 6'6" M spinning rod is a fantastic rod for skipping weightless soft plastics up under docks in clear water where you have to stay way back and skipping with a casting rod is a chore. They have just the right tip to really zing it a 4" or 5" yum dinger as far back as you can go, and enough power and control to get a good fish led away from danger. I use that rod all the time......because they are good and cheap, I break a few now and then when I get wild and don't pay attention and a back hand skip or something results in whacking the rod on the shaft or head of the TM.

I think those guys will scarf them up quick. They're my friends so I'm gonna just pass the price on to them. I am seriously thinking about keeping the 6'6" MH Garcia Vengeance rod. Like the touch and feel of it, to me has more of a Medium feel to it. If one doesn't go at break time that's the one I'll keep.

Holy cow, what a deal!

But my Walmart will probably have nothing like

that. Always seems to be in *other* states :(

I'll check though. Could use some extra rods for

my sons and I.

This never happens at my Walmarts

Agreed. When the ones around here have "sales", it's only a few dollars off a rod or reel and maybe $.50 off a bait. One time they had Vendettas for $30, never anything else like that though.

1. Buy the 7ft medium spinning rod

2. Cut 3 inches off the tip

3. Install new tip

Now you have a 6'9 medium fast and not medium moderate.

Been doing this for years

Three rods were gone in a hour and a half day time. Taking one Shock-Rod back home. Might use it. Probably not though. Not quite to my liking. I'm sure it's fine but seems short a couple of guides. Should have at least 7 on a 6 1/2 ft Rod.

With regard to the anti-snobbish rod brands, count me in   :)

The Berkley Lightning Shock Rod is a big bang for the buck,

and I still have BPS Bionic Blades that must be 40 yrs old.

I have 2 Walmart's about equal distance from my house. One never has any fishing clearance items. The other has a small fishing clearance section but they never have prices like the OP mentions.

I did see a Falcon casting rod there original price $100+ on sale for $70

I've stumbled upon many Bucoo and Jason Christie signature series for less than 15 bucks at my local places. I've learned to always look whenever I'm in there now

Yeah it does have a medium feel to it making the medium feel like medium fast light.

I'm gonna go back and see if they have another Vengeance. Felt nice for $13.00. The one I took to work a guy liked it. The Shock I had left over today a guy texted me to bring it back it tomorrow. I like helping those guys out. I really don't need any more rods (except the St. Croix I'll be picking up at a local show next month). Heck they are good enough for those guys. They are not out fishing all that much. Cheap price for a half decent rod. Put a $30.00 reel on it and go relax. They told me to bring in more when I see them at those prices.

Was able to pick up another Garcia Vengeance 6'6" MH for $13.00, I'm gonna keep this for myself. I really think this Rod is going to fish like a medium power with a moderate fast tip. I'm pretty sure how I'm gonna fish it, think it will be good for crankbaits 5/16 - 7/16 oz. range. 8# Fluor.

A couple of years ago I bought a Shock Rod and love it. Great buy! Wish our WalMarts had deals like that. Gonna see if their online store is offering anything.

I went through some hard econonic times last year and had to sell off all of my expensive rods. After i sold of all my rods i was in walmart and they had the shocks at $9. I bought five of them and was able to fish the whole season. I thought my fishing was done for the year. Now im building my arsenal again but the shocks will have their place in my arsenal. They did great all season

Sigh.

As anticipated, no such luck with Shock rods for less than

$39.95 at my local Wally's. C'est la vie.

Got up early this morning and started hitting all the Walmarts within 40 miles of my house. At the third one I found this?
