Had a wisdom tooth removed today. Went straight home, grabbed my rod and headed to the golf course for some relaxation.

In my mind this is completely sane. My entire face is still numb so not in pain yet, and I actually have the day off with no kids to watch..........So fishing of course!

Wasn't until I was walking back to my car after fishing for about 2hrs I wiped off what I thought was rain running down my face only to pull my hand back COVERED in blood.

My gause had shifted and I had started bleeding but was so numb I didn't know until I probably looked like a vampire that just had finished feeding.

What's your favorite "not sure how, but I found a way" fishing story?

PS... Caught a decent one too!

Not bass fishing, but this is how I caught my 2nd biggest brown @21". Had to make a stealthy approach that involved a good bit of rock climbing to get into position to cast.

Beware the dry socket...............especially if your out in the cold.

I had a wisdom tooth removed many years ago now, in the middle of winter. Was told NOT to be out in the cold for long periods of time or I would get a "dry socket" and that would make the tooth ache I had pryor to them removing the wisdom tooth feel like a tickle.

Of course being the genius I am, I didn't listen. Went back to work the next day and spent 10 hours in below freezing weather cleaning barns and bedding cows..............I paid for that stupidity.

Never had wisdom teath removed or went rock climbing to get to a fishing spot, but I've done some crazy things for fishing.  One of the craziest would be plowing through ice in a canoe with a re-inforced bow, and beating on the ice in front with a heavy stick to get to open water.  One time it took me over an hour and a half to pound my way through the ice.  Another time I was trying to get down a small (15 foot) vertical ravine to fish for smallmouth in the creek at the bottom, but the ravine was washed out from a flood so it was undercut a bit and impossible to climb.  So I tied a rope to a tree at the top of the ravine and used that to slide down, and later climb up again.  Caught a ton of fish that day, probably because noone else was dumb enough to climb down to get to it.

Not pertaining to fishing but this is pretty funny. My daughter had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled. When we put her to sleep that night, we told her to call us if she had to get up to go to the bathroom and we would help her. That morning we were talking to her and said that we guess that she didn't need to get up during the night. She informed us that she did get up during the night to go to the bathroom. We asked her why she didn't call us to help here, she said that Katie helped her. (Katie is her best friend). We informed her that Katie didn't spend the night with us and she didn't help her to the bathroom. She insisted that she did. The oral dentist must have really gave her some of that good stuff. She never believed us until she saw Katie 2 days later and was told that she wasn't there so she couldn't have helped her. I don't know if she ever believed us or Katie.

I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed in December right before Christmas. A few days after I kind of wanted to go ice fishing, about 3 1/2" inches of good ice on the local lake I fish. Was very close to going, decided I'd rather not risk it still not feeling 100%. Sad part is that was the only possible time I could have gone ice fishing the entire season so far....oh well. First day was extremely annoying because the Novocaine didn't wear off for a long time, that combined with pretty constant bleeding. For about a week after that it was just general soreness, probably didn't even need the painkillers they gave me.

Issue was, 12 hours after the surgery I was thinking to myself "man, the Novocaine should have worn off by now...". When I woke up and the right side of my mouth was still completely numb I knew it wasn't the Novocaine. Turns out one of my teeth was impacted and more difficult to remove than the others, one of the nerves got either pinched or nicked during the removal. As a side affect, a month later...I still have to question any time I eat meat whether I am chewing on the food or my tongue because I still don't have complete feeling in the right side of it. It is slowly getting better but I imagine it will still be a couple months before it's completely normal again. I've heard horror stories of people losing ALL feeling in their mouth due to the same but more serious occurrence, so it could be much worse.

I once went fishing when my wife had told me, "Do whatever you want", when she clearly didn't mean it.

"Do whatever you want" always means everything but that.

Been years ago but I too went fishing after having wisdom teeth removed. Did well until about last hour of that tournament but able to tough it out and won 2nd place overall as well as big bass that day. Nice paycheck as I recall

That's almost as bad as the dreaded "ITS FINE!" You have to have that certain tone, the one all the married guys know!

My cousin and I were pushing off a rental boat at a public lake . He only has one leg [ lost it in Nam ] . He twisted his back pushing the boat . I asked if he wanted to go back in ,but no , he wanted to fish .  I could see he was in pain, sweat started dripping off his face . About thirty minutes in ,  he could not take it anymore .He told me to take him to the bank . He got out of the boat ,laid on his stomach   and asked me to massage his lower back , so I proceeded .I couldnt say no to the tunnel rat . He was grunting and repeating " harder ' . So I sat on his back and started rubbing him with my butt , hes still groaning and repeating " harder ". Any way , theres a boat tied to a tree in the middle of the cove and he untied his boat and left . I can only imagine what he thought when he saw one guy on top of another , moving back and forth ,  hearing the grunts and the plea of " harder ".

No problem when my upper wisdom teeth were pulled, but I didn't do anything that day or the next.

The lowers were something different. They were growing in almost horizontally facing forward. They knocked me out and removed them with hammer and chisel. Really. When I woke up I had to hang out at the office for quite a while. I had an old Harley at the time, and tried to ride it home.

Made it all of three blocks before getting pulled over. Apparently I was a bit wobbly. After confirming that I'd been at the dentist, and not in a bar, the cop took me home. Probably saved my life. I was in no condition to ride.

I'll tell one of my friend's stories. When I lived in CT, my buddies and I spent all of our focus on striped bass. There is an annual, season-long catch/release tournament, and all fish also can only be caught from shore. A friend of mine took this tourny very seriously. We fish at night up there and we typically wear wetsuits and swim out into the rocks to go fishing. He got out to his rock, and he hooked a very big fish. As he was fighting the fish, a wave came and swept him off the rock and into the water, fish on the other end. The fish made a dash toward the tide rip, and took him with it. He was several hundred yards from the beach now, and drifting away, but he refused to let go of the fish. A boat noticed him in the water and came to rescue. He refused to get in the boat, and explained to the captain that he had to land the fish ashore. So he had the boat captain pull him in to the beach. He got his feet on the ground and fought the fish, landed it, measured and photographed it, and released it. He was pretty banged up from bouncing off all the rocks and getting towed around. The boat captain insisted on calling  the coast guard. As soon as he released the fish, he took off before the coasties showed up. As I recall, he won that week of the tournament.
