MLF and Wesley Strader

Has Wesley Strader fished yet? This last episode only had 5 anglers. I was wondering why there were only 5 so looked at the MLF Select Anglers list and I see him listed. I don't recall him fishing in the any of the rounds. Glad to see him on board. I hope he does well.

I have not seen him yet either, idk who he is but I haven't seen him. I too wondered why there were only 5 anglers in this last round. It says there are 24 select anglers and 6 per round. I can only guess someone dropped out

According to MLF, Swindle was the "missing person" due to personal reasons. I think Wesley just recently joined.

Possibly cause of complications from the surgery. Heard he had problems after surgery.

Not sure when it was taped. He had his surgery a couple days after AOY. He almost lost his leg.

"according to MLF" is this on their web site?

Just checked their angler list again. Just noticed Swindle isn't listed. He's a favorite of mine. Cracks me up with the stuff he says.

On their Facebook page. My guess is he was offered a slot last year, and either decided to step back for whatever reason at the first event or had to miss it for the "personal reasons" stated. I know he was one that was originally supposed to be a part of the MLF deal but couldn't because of conflicting sponsor restrictions (their truck sponsor vs his).

You mention conflicting sponsor restrictions. That brings up something I've been wondering about. KVD is a Hummingbird guy. MLF uses Lowrance. There have to be other conflicts. How do they get around that? i would think HB would have a problem with KVD using Lowrance.

I'm willing to bet if you look really close (I haven't) at his electronics they could very well be Humminbird. If you listen to the host once in a while he mentions the anglers are using Nitro Z-9's. That's not entirely true Ike is sponsored by Basscat Hackney Phoenix look close and you'll see neither are in Nitro's. It's quite possible KVD is using Lowrance I haven't looked, but wouldn't be surprised if it were a couple birds on his rig.

I haven't looked but the next time they're competing I will try to look for them. I'm not familiar with any of their brands except Lowrance. I'm sure they try to film and edit it in such a way so that any brand inconsistancies are kept a bare minimum.

It all comes down to the wording in their contracts. Each pro has a contract with each sponsor of theirs. That contract is usually tailored to that individual. Not many blanket agreements where all pros have the same agreement, even for the same company. So, as an example (hypothetical), KVD's contract might state he only has to use Hummingbird products on his own personal boat, which would get him around using Lowrances on the MLF boats. However, another pros contract with Hummingbird might state he has to exclusively use only Humminbird products when competing, which would effectively preclude him from competing in MLF where the supplied boats use another manufacturers product. This scenario is supposedly why Terry Scroggins and G Swindle had to decline initial invites to MLF when it first started up.

This would explain why several names that I would expect to be on the show and they are not.
